IDs for Thee, but Not for Me

The idea of requiring voters to show identification, something simple that verifies the person who is voting is someone who is actually registered to vote, is a vile act of racial discrimination to the American Left. They've been beating that particular drum for years now, even as most minorities in this country note that no, they don't have any issues showing identification at the polls.

It's pretty racist to say they can't get a state-issued ID card when they do it all the time and need it for a thousand other things.

But what's really funny to me is that the party that wanted everyone to wear a mask everywhere and says identification requirements are racist now wants to require law enforcement officers to take off their masks and show identification everywhere they go.

In theory, I'd rather not have something that looks like a secret police force, either.

In practice, though, cops wearing masks to protect their identities isn't anything new. They've been doing that for years, particularly when the officer's life might be in danger. Undercover officers, particularly narcotics officers, routinely wear masks when conducting police raids.

That way, someone's cover isn't blown, and they can continue to work undercover.

Seems straightforward.

These days, though, Mexican cartels are putting bounties on ICE agents, so ICE agents are protecting their identities. They're being hemmed in on city streets and attacked by people simply as they go about doing their job, just because they're with ICE, and so they stopped advertising who they're with.

And now, cities like Seattle want to try to dictate how they do their jobs, even knowing all of this is happening.

Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell says this is about transparency and accountability. Frankly, I'd buy that argument more if the Left weren't so aghast at people needing to have identification for voting or even using actual names on people's commercial driver's licenses. Time and time again, it's called racist and fascist to want ID for voting, or even expecting people to register well before the election so they can be informed of exactly where they should be voting and be vetted for eligibility, but they want to dictate that federal law enforcement officers should be put at risk by exposing their identities in the line of duty.

In other words, showing identification is only warranted when the Left gets butthurt about someone's actions. When it's an opportunity for election fraud, it's a terrible thing to ask for.

Honestly, the hypocrisy is mind-numbing.

It's not shocking, though, because that's how the Left rolls. They always want to hamstring law enforcement, hamstring the electoral process, create a thousand-year leftist reich – and yes, I chose that terminology on purpose because, contrary to us, they actually deserve the comparison – but they refuse to allow law enforcement to do their jobs.

For your average Democrat, it really is a case of, "IDs for thee, but not for me."

These cities that try to put federal law enforcement officers' lives at risk in an act of political retribution against the president for daring to actually enforce federal immigration laws not only need to be struck down, but those who try to implement them should lose any and all federal funding, and past funding efforts should be audited to make sure the money was spent appropriately.

I wonder how Harrell will feel about transparency and accountability then.
