Platner's Tattoo Exposes Dems Badly

The opinions expressed by columnists are their own and do not necessarily represent the views of Townhall.com.

Maine Democrat Senate Candidate Graham Platner is...special.

Not only did he come right out and say he was a commie – something that should automatically disqualify you for anything above digging ditches – but now we know he's got a Nazi tattoo on his chest.

Platner claims he got drunk on shore leave as a young Marine and got the tattoo (which I can believe) and that he didn't learn about its symbolism until recently. Many of his fellow Democrats, including Sen. Bernie Sanders, are standing by him, and I find it kind of hysterical.

It was just a week or so ago when we first saw the chat log of a Young Republican group that included some racist language. Now, I'm not about to excuse any of that crap because there's no excuse for it. Sure, some of them might have just been trying to be edgy or engage in dark humor, but some may well have actually believed that.

But the Left lost its mind. It was the most horrible thing ever, and those people should have been named, shamed, and purged from society or something. We were all expected to condemn each one publicly.

Yet, Platner gets a pass from some of these same people?

"But he didn't know the symbolism," they might say. I call BS.

The tattoo was the SS Totenkopf, the skull and crossbones symbol of the Nazis. This might not be quite as famous as the swastika or the twin lightning bolts of the SS, but it's appeared in literally every movie that has ever featured a Nazi. It's a big part of the "Are we the baddies?" meme, even. Even the most socially illiterate among the American population knows that symbolism, and we're supposed to believe that Platner didn't know and no one told him anywhere along the way?

And Democrats give him a pass.

They were ready to attack Secretary of War Pete Hegseth for his Jerusalem Cross tattoo, calling it a Nazi symbol, but they're looking the other way for Platner?

In truth, they don't care about Nazis, just like they don't care about kings. They just care about painting the Right with that brush while making sure none of the paint splatters on them. To do that, many are downplaying an actual Nazi tattoo on one of their candidates – one who has had a really rough couple of weeks as people found out about the vile stuff he posted on Reddit – and still pretending that Trump is the real problem.

They're exposing themselves and doing it severely.

If we had an actual, unbiased media, Platner would already have been hounded off the campaign trail by now. Instead, he's goose-stepping on, and the Democrats are helping him do it.

Remember this the next time one of them calls you a Nazi. Remember this the next time they claim Trump and Republicans enable racism, sexism, and every other kind of vile behavior out there.

They lost their minds over a group of nobodies in a private chat, but many are covering for a prominent candidate for Senate in a pretty blue state. It tells you a lot, doesn't it?
