In July, I wrote that “Miami’s Freedom Tower Is the New Statue of Liberty.” That vision is now vindicated by President Trump’s announcement that Miami-Dade will host the G-20 Summit in 2026. The world’s most powerful leaders will gather here: proof that we’ve emerged as America’s new global powerhouse.
Miami has become a modern-day Ellis Island, welcoming those fleeing oppression and hardship. Like New York in its prime, our county draws people from around the world who seek freedom and opportunity. But unlike New York, Miami is built on conservative values, immigrant grit, faith, and a love of liberty. The Freedom Tower, once a haven for Cuban exiles, now stands as our own Statue of Liberty, welcoming the tired, poor, and huddled masses of the 21st century.
This prosperity did not happen by accident. Miami-Dade chose a different path: safe streets, low taxes, parental rights in schools, and an economy where businesses thrive and families prosper. Thanks to leaders like our great Governor Ron DeSantis, our community embodies what Arthur Brooks called a “conservative heart”—moral capitalism, strong families, and upward mobility. While other cities decline under progressive one-party rule, Miami-Dade is flourishing. Many of our residents have firsthand experience with failed socialist societies in Cuba, Venezuela, and Central America. They know that individual worth and the opportunity to succeed are tied to personal freedom and open markets.

Today, Miami isn’t just succeeding, it is leading. Finance, trade, technology, media, and the arts have all found a home here. Hosting the G-20 will generate billions in tourism, hospitality, contracts, and global investment—economic momentum that will benefit Miami-Dade residents for decades to come. The summit is projected to support tens of thousands of local jobs, attract new global partnerships, and showcase Miami-Dade as a permanent center of international commerce and diplomacy. It is more than a summit; it is a catalyst that will elevate our county for generations.
We owe immense gratitude to President Trump for recognizing Miami’s rise. As one of the greatest presidents of all time, he has once again proven his unmatched vision for America’s future. His decision to bring the G-20 here honors our people and proves that Miami-Dade’s best days are still ahead.
This moment is ultimately a tribute to the people of Miami-Dade. Our residents—native-born and immigrant—are fiercely patriotic and entrepreneurial. They bleed red, white, and blue and ask only for a chance to succeed, not handouts. By building thriving businesses, safe neighborhoods, and a dynamic culture, they created the conditions that drew the G-20 to our doorstep. We also owe President Trump our thanks for recognizing Miami-Dade County’s rise and choosing to bring this international summit here.
America is the only country in the world to have inspired a dream. That dream of a place where anyone, regardless of their origin, can attain personal and economic freedom is alive and well here. We reflect the true promise of America, and now we welcome the world’s leaders to our community.
Hosting the G-20 is an honor our community earned, and we will show the world why Miami truly embodies American greatness.
