Conservatives Must Stop Falling for the MSM’s Gaslighting, Turning Us Against Each Other

I’ve been noticing a disturbing trend that seems to be getting worse lately: MAGA attacking MAGA. It’s driven by the overwhelmingly left-leaning MSM (only 3% of journalists are Republicans), which lies, distorts, and omits the truth, deliberately to turn the right against each other. The resulting infighting is understandable, since even if you go out of your way to avoid the MSM, you can’t get away from it. Your friends and family watch it. News flashes bombard you on your computer, smartphone, and in emails, and unless you keep up with them, constantly turning them off, you can’t escape them.

The latest division the MSM is causing is over the Jeffrey Epstein files. The Democrats and their comrades in the MSM have cleverly figured out that since conservatives are so disturbed by pedophilia, they are easily convinced that even the Trump administration is hiding something by not releasing all the files publicly.

It’s so incredibly hypocritical to see the left concerned about pedophilia, since they’ve gaslit the right for years about those concerns. Plus, many prominent Democrats hung out with Jeffrey Epstein: Bill and Hillary Clinton, Larry Summers, Anthony Weiner (how appropriate), Bill Richardson, and George Mitchell. Both Clinton and Richardson have been accused of inappropriate behavior with minors.

Now, did the Trump administration botch the handling of the files? It sounds like there were some mishaps. If there were legitimate reasons not to release files, this should have been explained better. Trump is now saying that the Biden administration manufactured the Epstein files to make MAGA look bad. “Why are we giving publicity to Files written by Obama, Crooked Hillary, Comey, Brennan, and the Losers and Criminals of the Biden Administration, who conned the World…” he said Saturday on TruthSocial. He probably should have said this earlier and expounded on it more.

It makes no sense that others who have never been involved with Epstein, like Attorney General Pam Bondi and FBI Director Kash Patel, would risk committing serious felonies to cover up even more serious felonies for others. They would resign before risking getting locked up! They’re already quite brave to serve in those positions, because once a Democrat becomes president again, there is a realistic possibility they will be prosecuted on bogus grounds.

I also don’t believe Trump is implicated. There is no way with all the exposés that have come out from the women who were abused, and all the attention, that he could have covered up something that heinous. Plus, he’s far too smart. He banned Epstein from Mar-a-Lago in 2007.

While it seems plausible that someone murdered Epstein, it is also equally plausible that he killed himself.

I believe Elon Musk is helping to get to the bottom of it by posting about the discrepancies, such as questioning the missing video coverage from the jail, which is still being addressed. If anyone has credibility and can get something accomplished that major, it’s him. Dan Bongino, the second-in-command at the FBI, is also helping, reportedly threatening to resign if the files aren’t released.

I believe it’s too soon to make judgments on whether Trump or any of his associates were involved improperly with Epstein.

I’ve worked for several politicians, both on the campaign trail and in public office, and there is usually something going on behind the scenes with a rational explanation for a lot of their seemingly odd behavior. With RINOs, it’s almost always “follow the money” to explain their actions. But with MAGA, there is usually a legitimate explanation. As a local reporter, when I hear our MAGA officials in Arizona criticized for allegedly taking RINO positions, I go directly to the source and ask them for the back story. Repeatedly. It gets exhausting. I usually hear a legitimate explanation, and I’ll often write articles explaining the situation and defending them on social media. But it’s a lot of work, and there’s only so much time in the day — I could devote my whole career to just this one exercise because it’s so prevalent.

I believe that because officials are so harried and overworked, they don’t see the perception they’re creating by not going public and explaining themselves to low-information armchair warriors. Compounding the problem is that many of these attack dogs fail to research issues before criticizing them. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had to correct people on X who claim that no one is ever prosecuted for election wrongdoing, for example. We’ve had two high-profile prosecutions recently in Arizona where people served time, here and here

In the Epstein situation, anything not released could be due to the strict court orders sealing records. Now, could the Trump administration request to have parts of them unsealed, leaving out the victims’ names? Yes, and I suspect that will happen.

I think people are jumping the gun on this, but at the same time, people like Musk and Bongino putting pressure on the situation is helping get it resolved quicker.

Studies have shown that people on the right tend to have higher levels of paranoia than people on the left, and are more likely to believe in conspiracy theories. I believe this is due to our higher ethical standards, driven by Christians forming our base. We are far more concerned about wrongdoing, so we are more likely to suspect it when something seems amiss. The problem with this attitude is that people who have no idea what is going on make snap judgments from their armchairs.

The left is already doing a great job of bashing Trump and his appointees over the Epstein files. Why not take the high road and put polite pressure on Trump without resorting to foul language and making enemies? What if Trump releases everything and there is no smoking gun? After all, if there was anything on Trump, why didn’t the Biden administration release the files?
