Take it from James Carville: if your opponent is drowning, throw him an anvil, not a life jacket. That’s what Democrats are doing right now with their communist insurgency that’s reaping meteoric electoral success. Last Tuesday, New York was taken over by these people, who aren’t exactly popular, but they’re organized, scrappy, and are tapping into the liberal rage against the Trump White House. Establishment Democrats dismiss these people, and they’re getting wrecked. Colorado could be the next area where the hammer and sickle come bearing down. It’s their problem for now, and the GOP should watch this fire burn.
First, what would we do? Pull a Jeff Flake and support Democrats who aren’t crazy? No. Sure, we can think, as I do, that if, gun to our head, we had to choose between a left-wing loon or someone like Chuck Schumer, you’d pick Schumer. And then I’d drink the cup of hemlock, because both options are terrible. The irony is that Schumer is a hard-core liberal, but he’s Jewish and pro-Israel, which is unacceptable with this crowd now. It’s not good enough to be anti-Trump; you must be crazy, show some fight, and hate Jews.
So, yes, the GOP should stay back and let Democrats tear themselves apart because this party, confident ahead of the 2026 midterms, now must deal with this left-wing circus, spend money where they didn’t expect it, and, yes, face these people winning primaries. The conversation will now shift toward abolishing police, prisons, and allowing open borders. It will also debate whether antisemitism should be tolerated to win elections. These people are extreme, and yes, I’m certain that a candidate preaching lawlessness, no prisons, and wanting to tax and spend on foolish public policies would lose easily.
In the 1980s and 1990s, during most of Margaret Thatcher’s tenure, the Labour Party was overtaken by neo-Trotskyite extremists. This led to a humiliating defeat for the party in 1983. Afterward, Labour began removing these radicals, culminating in Tony Blair’s 1996 landslide victory. It took nearly a generation, however. Perhaps the Democrats need another major electoral loss to emerge from the wilderness, a day I hope never arrives. Although one major defeat might be enough to neutralize the socialists in the party, who are clearly trying to absorb it.
If fighting Trump is the only requirement to win, then there will be a list of fundamentally beatable candidates from the Democrats who cannot keep their emotions in check regarding the 45th and 47th presidents of the United States. Folks, they’re settling for a man with Nazi tattoos and verified allegations of domestic abuse to run against Susan Collins in Maine. Nazi tattoos—need I say more?
Let them eat each other. On our end, we need to pressure our folks to get something called the SAVE America Act passed, because the procedural panican crowd led by John Thune is getting on my last nerve.
