Visions for America: Democrats vs. America’s Founding Fathers

The Democratic Party, and members thereof, certainly have a “vision” of what they want America to be.  Some of that vision you and I would not disagree with at least what they SAY.  They SAY they want racism, poverty, and crime to end, and that they want peace on earth.  I’m not convinced the Democratic Party leadership really does want those things (look at what people DO, not at what they SAY—evil people want evil things). Still, I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt and say they are just blind and don’t realize that their programs are often the cause of these catastrophes, not the solutions.  But I certainly would like to see racism, crime, war, etc., come to an end.  And I think most “rank and file” Democrats would, too.

The main issue is not that we want different things for the nation (although, again, there ARE differences in those “visions”), but mainly, how to accomplish the “vision” we have for America. As I will talk about further in this article, Democrats now believe that any “utopian vision” of America can only be accomplished through government action. That isn’t the conservative vision, or the vision of the men who founded the country. We believe in personal responsibility and accountability, in understanding that actions have consequences, and that hard work and virtue are necessary for a successful republic. And that such a vision is based on eternal verities, not human-devised governments. Our vision is the vision of America’s Founders. So, this is not just Democrats versus “us,” it is Democrats versus the people who founded the United States.

Two different visions of how to accomplish a great country. How did our Founders believe national greatness and success could be achieved? Their vision is discovered in the founding document of the nation, the Declaration of Independence.

Here are a few thoughts from the Declaration that seriously divide the nation on what and how the country can become great and successful.

1. “All men are created equal.” The Left doesn’t believe that. I KNOW they don’t believe that all men are “created”; they don’t believe in God. And I’m not convinced that Barack Obama, Nancy Pelosi, et al, believe you and I are “equal” to them. They are superior, they ought to rule, and we peasants should shut up and follow our masters. But, to our Founders, we are all “equal” in that no one is born with a right to rule others; that is the very thing they were rebelling against. A very different vision, Democrats vs. our Founding Fathers.

2. “That they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights.” Our rights are “unalienable” (natural), and they come from God, not man. Well, obviously, there is a major difference in “vision” here between the Left and the Founders. The Left doesn’t believe in God (or certainly doesn’t look to Him for…anything), and if God doesn’t exist, then our rights cannot come from Him, can they? With no God, the highest authority on earth becomes governments.  And that is what the Left, the Democrats, believe in (as long as they control it in their superior inequality). I lived in communist China for ten years, and any rights I had in that country came from the government, not God. And they let me know it. That’s Leftism, that’s the Democratic Party vs. America’s Founding Fathers.

3. “That among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness”, or “property” in John Locke’s term. Life, liberty, and property (and the “pursuit of happiness”) are rights that “all men” have, and they are “endowed” by the “Creator.” Well, the Democrats (the Left) obviously don’t believe in a “right to life,” because they give women the authority to murder the living baby in their womb. The idea of the Founding Fathers regarding “liberty” is based upon moral virtue. As Benjamin Franklin said, "Only a virtuous people are capable of freedom. As nations become corrupt and vicious, they have more need of masters." Edmund Burke, not one of our Founders but usually in agreement with them, said, “There is no liberty without morality.”  Leftist “freedom” is licentiousness, promiscuity, as much selfishness to “pursue personal happiness” as possible, and humans, not God, provide the standard of morality. That last point is key in the Left vs. the Founding Fathers.  To our Founders, morality is defined by God; to the Left, it is defined by humans (especially them). And they will never be the same.

4. “That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among men.”  Note, to our Founders, governments are created not to GIVE US our rights, but to SECURE (protect) the rights God gives us. Do you think the Democratic Party of Pelosi, AOC, Obama, etc., believes that?  Don’t make me laugh. But to our Founders, even governments were under the sovereign authority of God, and had limitations on what they could do. Tell that to the ChiComs, or Hitler, or Stalin. Or the Democratic Party today.  Limited government.  That is the Founding Fathers vs. the unlimited government of today’s Leftist Democratic Party. To Democrats, Donald Trump should be limited in what HE does. But what limitations have you ever seen the Democrats, in recent years, place on themselves?

5. “Deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.” We tell the government what to do, not the other way around. And since the people created the government, they can change it any time they want to. Do you think the Democrats believe that?  Well, only if Donald Trump and MAGA are in office. And the Obama- and Biden-appointed activist judges certainly do not believe in “government of, by, and for the people.”

The Democrats certainly have a vision of what they want America to be, but it is not rooted in, and is nowhere near, what our Founding Fathers created. And we’d better be very wary of the Left’s vision.
