No, We Don’t Want a Theocracy, Not Even Close

I recently had an incredibly stupid Leftist (a repetition of terms, I know) accuse me of perhaps wanting to live in a theocracy because, as a Christian, I believe that the teachings of Jesus are the highest form of morality, freedom, decency, peace, and good will to men that exist.  But theocracy?

No, I have absolutely no desire to live in a “theocracy” because governments on earth are run by fallible human beings.  I believe in religious freedom—that every human being ought to make their own choice as to what religion they want to believe and practice.   Total freedom of religion.  That is exactly what God (Jesus) gave humans!   He never forced anyone to obey Him.  He encouraged them to do so (I do, too).  He gave them certain promises if they would (I do, too), and He constantly warned them of what would happen if they didn’t (I do, too).  But He never forced anybody to accept Him, and I never have, either, and I never will.  And, unlike the Leftist, I don’t believe in government doing that.

Freedom of religion is in the government established by our Founding Fathers, which was unlike the one they were rebelling against, which had a national, state-supported church.  The Founders believed in human freedom based on morality and virtue, but that such morality and virtue was impossible apart from the religious principles they believed in.  And I, but not Leftists, believe in them, too.

I lived in Communist China for 10 years so I know, from experience, whereof I speak.  Try practicing “freedom of religion” in that country—a Leftist country.   Did people in the Soviet Union have “freedom of religion”?  How many churches and religious people did the communists in the USSR destroy and kill?   That is Leftism.  But, as the total hypocrites they are, they scream “freedom of religion,” something Jesus, nor I, would ever take away from anybody—like the Leftists do!

Hey, Lefty, if you got the power in America you crave and lust for, would you let Christians have freedom of religion?   What do you think about Jews?

And Lefty, let me ask you another question:  would you rather live in a virtuous, godly republic where Judeo-Christian teachings were honored and respected as the moral law of the land, or would you rather live in Stalin’s or Mao’s communist dictatorship?

I know which one I’d choose, but frankly, I don’t know which one the Leftist would choose.  As long as the government allowed (and it would be by government allowance because there is no natural, God-given freedom in Leftist countries)— him as much perverted, promiscuous sex as he wanted, and allowed women to murder their babies and butcher their children, I have a suspicion the Leftist would rather live under Stalin or Mao.  I’ll choose Jesus any day of the week.

But that means, as discussed above, freedom of choice in regard to religion.   I don’t believe the Pope ought to rule, nor an Islamic Imam, or a Jewish rabbi, or even a so-called Christian “reverend.”  I don’t trust ANY human being with government power, I don’t care who he (she, it) is!  That’s what the Left wants.  Since, to the Left, there is no God, government must be the highest form of authority.  I don’t trust them, any of them.  But I do want, because it’s the best we can do on this earth, godly, virtuous men to rule and set an example of excellence, godliness, humility, faith, and true freedom before the nation.  The Left would never go for that.

“The aim of every political constitution is, or ought to be, first to obtain for rulers men who possess most wisdom to discern, and most virtue to pursue, the common good of the society, and in the next place, to take the most effectual precautions for keeping them virtuous whilst they continue to hold their public trust.” (James Madison, emphasis mine)

“To suppose that any form of government will secure liberty or happiness without any virtue in the people is a chimerical [fanciful] idea” (Madison).

“The future and success of America is not in this Constitution, but in the laws of God upon which this Constitution is founded.”   (Madison)

That’s the government I want.  It’s not a theocracy, not even close, but if it is, then I would want a theocracy.  Lefty, you can have Stalin and Mao, and good luck.
