As noted in my previous articles, “Progress” became a major philosophical movement in the 19th and 20th centuries, and is still with us today, with a major caveat that we will eventually note. Charles Darwin, being a member of the most favored class in the most favored nation of the world, was a devout believer in “progress;” it was the world he grew up in, and he was a product of it. “Progressive” ideology underlay his theory of evolution. Karl Marx, who believed Darwin’s theory was spot on and even wanted to dedicate one volume of his book “Capital” to Darwin, also acknowledged the “progressive” idea. “Progress” was virtually unchallenged in intellectual circles in the 19th and early 20th centuries, spawning even a “Progressive Party” in America. Leftists, of course, still like to call themselves “progressives.”
But, critically, Darwin’s theory, rightly or wrongly, has been hijacked, in “intellectual” circles, by atheists, and logically speaking, it is perfectly understandable why. Darwinism is a naturalistic, materialistic theory, designed to demonstrate how our universe arrived by gradual “evolution” (“progress”) to its current state without supernatural intervention. Marx certainly understood Darwin this way, as have subsequent non-theistic scientists. Theistic evolutionists have tried, and still try, to harmonize God and evolution, but pure Darwinians reject this. Richard Dawkins, a popular Oxford evolutionary scientist, said, “Darwin made it possible to be an intellectually fulfilled atheist.” And he is far from alone in that thinking. If, as Darwin asserted, everything has arrived here “naturally” (without “supernatural” help), and if the material world is all that exists (“materialism”), then atheism, with all that implies, must be true. True or not, the point is Marx certainly believed that way, and so does modern Leftism in America, though they must be somewhat circumspect in their approach. Even most peasant Democrats still believe in God. Remember: never believe what Leftists SAY. Always look at what they DO. Because, as we know, they are utterly amoral and will lie about anything.
They have followed the logic of their beliefs. If Darwin was right and everything is naturally evolving, moving ever upward to more sophisticated and complex entities, then nothing is fixed, final, or absolute. Obviously, anything that is eternally “fixed” is not “evolving.” And that includes morality. Everything is in flux, changing, adapting, even moral standards. That is what modern “Progressivism” has become. This is critical in understanding current America. Abortion, transgenderism, child mutilation, homosexual “marriage,” pedophilia—this is the morality of “progressivism.” 100 years ago, 50 years ago, much of this wasn’t even heard of, much less accepted and defended by our largest political party.
But—everything is “evolving,” changing, nothing is absolute, we are “progressing.” Folks, the Democratic Party’s current “progressive” moral philosophy is rooted in Darwinism’s theory of universal evolution: change, “progress,” no God, and peppered with a whole lot of Marxist economics—which is “progressive,” too (“scientific socialism”). Darwinism is not just “biology;” it has become an entire explanation for existence. Very few people understand this. But these are the historical roots of the current Democratic Party.
History usually moves slowly, and it took awhile for this “progressive,” atheistic ideology to influence the country. America, of course, started as a “Christian” nation. On February 29, 1892, the Supreme Court declared, in “Holy Trinity v. United States,” that historical records demonstrate America “is a Christian nation.” Nobody would have denied that then. In April 1829, religious leader Alexander Campbell and skeptic Robert Owen held a 25-day debate on the evidence of Christianity in Cincinnati. Literally thousands of people attended at least one of the sessions. At the end of the debate, Campbell asked for a demonstration. Those who believe in Christianity and “wish to see it pervade the world,” please stand up. There was almost universal rising among the hundreds in attendance. Then Campbell said, those who don’t want to see Christianity spread please rise. Three people stood. This doesn’t prove Christianity, of course, it simply demonstrates the dominance that religion had in early America, and its moral code was believed (if not perfectly practiced) by nearly all Americans for most of our history. And, obviously, millions still adhere to their faith in Christianity.
But Darwinism slowly began to creep in, spreading its tentacles through every aspect of society, especially educational institutions, eroding faith in God. The intellectual class swallowed it completely, and gained control of media, academia, and communications. Everything on TV and in the movies began to be interpreted through a Darwinian lens. They took over biology, geology, history, etc. disciplines. Churches slept. Parents were unaware of what was occurring in their children’s classrooms or, more importantly, what it actually meant. They were told that “God” and “evolution” could be harmonized. And they accepted that. And never understood what Leftists were festering in their children’s minds.
We’ve finally woken up and realized this is a completely different America from the one our Founders established and that we were raised in. It’s “religion vs. science,” and we all know which of those the intellectual class will always side with. Science is “progressive...” And science means Darwinism.
And Darwinism, to the intelligentsia, means atheism. And atheism means no moral absolutes. Child mutilation. Abortion. Pedophilia. Men becoming women. Utter moral licentiousness and promiscuity. The Democratic Party. Hitler. Lenin. Stalin. The CCP. That’s what it means.
That’s “progress.” That’s the Democratic Party. That’s what we face today.
But “progress” had one great, big hole in it. It’s called “true history.”
Remember, 19th-century “intellectuals” considered that century the most “progressive” in history, and, as the 20th century arrived, Progressive ideologues, given Darwinism and Marxism, awaited only bigger and better things to come. The 20th century should be even better than the 19th! We’ve removed God and outdated religious superstitions! More progress towards the glorious earthly utopia will surely come! Mankind is evolving ever upward, right? “Scientific” socialism, right? Right??
