The pro-life movement has had several wins over the 43 years since abortion was made legal in all nine months, but there have been far too many missteps and mistakes that have cost precious lives. Since January 22, 1973, close to 60 million (about the entire population of Italy for reference) preborn babies have lost their lives to abortion; and women and men suffered the emotional and physical devastation of their so-called “right to choose.”
Every presidential election demands voters decide what is most important for them and what candidate best represents their values. For anyone who cares about the value of human life, there is nothing more urgent than electing a President that has demonstrated the credentials and the resolve to fight against abortion, the greatest human atrocity of our lifetime.
The President of the United States holds enormous power to strip federal funding from the abortion industry or make sure tax dollars continue to flow to the nation’s largest abortion vendor, Planned Parenthood. They hold the power to nominate Supreme Court justices, who will either expand abortion or uphold the Constitution, which says nothing about a right to end innocent life.
For too long, pro-lifers have failed to elect trusted leaders with a background of fighting for life and instead cast votes for candidates who in no way have been tested in the pro-life trenches, or worse, have fought for abortion rights, donated to abortion-rights groups, or suggested possible nominees to the US Supreme Court who are ardently pro-choice.
Every election cycle is precious and crucial and either furthers the goal of overturning Roe and Doe and making abortion unthinkable or it expands taxpayer-funded abortion and extends the years that children will be dismembered, ripped apart piece by piece, legally.
Donald Trump, the Republican frontrunner, has captivated the nation’s attention for a litany of reasons and has channeled the justified anger that voters have towards Washington, DC into poll numbers and overflowing rallies. Many friends of mine and leaders like Sarah Palin have given him their pro-life credentials along with their endorsement.

But voters – especially pro-life voters – need to look closer than the dog and pony show. Mr. Trump said in an
This August, Mr. Trump suggested his sister, a federal judge, would make a phenomenal Supreme Court justice. Maryanne Trump Barry wrote an opinion upholding partial-birth abortion, advocating the procedure done on viable babies be given constitutional protection.
Mr. Trump also said over the summer that he would look at the “good aspects” of Planned Parenthood before deciding whether or not to stop forcing taxpayers to fund them. Never mind that they were caught on camera discussing the harvesting and sale of baby body parts. There is no good that Planned Parenthood does that can possibly make up for the atrocities that occur there every day. Period.
It’s not going to be a “huge win” for the tiny babies that get torn up in their mother’s wombs if Trump is the GOP nominee. It’s not going to be a win for the mothers who are faced with the enormity of their decision. And it certainly won’t be a win for pro-lifers, who will be faced with Hillary Clinton vs. Hillary Clinton.
To put it bluntly, pro-lifers have a habit of getting screwed over by elected officials. A year ago, supposed pro-life Congresswoman Renee Ellmers (R-NC) halted a bill that would have banned abortions after 20 weeks because she thought Millennials wouldn’t support the GOP (they actually are the group that supported the ban the most).
Under Speaker John Boehner’s leadership, Planned Parenthood’s funding increased every year. Even under President George W. Bush’s Administration, no bill ever made it to his desk that defunded Planned Parenthood.
If pro-lifers are serious about overturning Roe v. Wade and not just showing up to Washington, DC every January to walk in the snow with other pro-lifers, they have to be serious about who they elect to represent them. Electing someone based on celebrity status, or how angry they may be at Washington elites, or how entertaining they are is a grave mistake - one that will cost the lives of millions of innocent babies.
