Winston Churchill proclaimed, “If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without bloodshed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory because it is better to perish than to live as slaves.”
Congress is symbolic of the growing dysfunction in America as Marxists, gays, and prominent liberals have locked arms with radical Islamists. As in Congress, on university campuses, and in urban centers all across our nation, various groups are blind to the dangers that lurk with the rise of militant Islam. Through the aggressive spread of Sharia, seeds of distrust of governing institutions are being sown into the minds of the unsuspecting.
The exploding national debt, growing acceptance of socialism, and the massive influx of unassimilated aliens—all portend a dystopian future if America does not reclaim the fact that freedom and American exceptionalism are the greatest drivers of peace, prosperity, and innovation in history.
Through all of this, it is easy to see the spectrum ranging from unease to uncertainty to bubbling anger in Americans.
Domestic circumstances are still deteriorating as the Working Families Tax Cut is dawning, causing many Republicans to begin abandoning their conservative principles of limited government in order to “do something.” But that something will result in an increased government influence that places restraints on our supposedly free markets.
Today, the words “Never again” ring hollow. Twenty-five years after 9/11, New York City elected an avowed Communist supporter of Jihad. A mere handful of years after COVID unleashed massive government spending and draconian control, even some Republicans are now surrendering to the liberal media’s lies about Joe Biden’s COVID-era Obamacare subsidies that extend both spending and control. All of this as the national debt roars past $38 trillion, well on its way to $39 trillion in short order, climbing to $62 trillion in the next ten years, according to the Congressional Budget Office in a recent Budget Committee hearing.

Conservatives in Congress must realize that the fate of our Constitutional Republic hangs in the balance as myriad forces target the very idea of self-governing by the people.
Congress has one power that can slow the decline of our nation: the power of the purse. Reversing the crushing burden of America’s unsustainable debt crisis will require courage from lawmakers to reform mandatory spending programs. The alternative is unthinkable.
Incrementalism is not sufficient in the current environment. Bold strokes are a necessity to gain the attention of the American people about the impending danger. Moving Congress in a direction towards freedom – which is what the American people elected us to do – will require fulfilling the usually hollow campaign promises to confront the debt crisis and cut spending.
Far too many Members of Congress shamefully promise one thing at home, then get to Washington and do another. Many of them are serving alongside me today.
The 250th anniversary of our Founding may provide an opportunity to remind the people—and those in Congress—of the sacrifices and policies that made America the greatest economic and military power on earth, but make no mistake, the time to act is fleeting.
Thus far, the House Freedom Caucus seems to be the only cohesive group in Congress with the chutzpah to at least offer encouragement to fellow conservatives who fear the sacrifice that this fight requires. Abundant abuse will come, and loss may follow, “but it is better to perish than live as slaves.”
Ask yourself, where do you believe America is on this continuum Churchill laid out so eloquently? Where are you?
