Accountability Could Be Just a Matter of Time

By now, there is very little doubt that former President Joe Biden, left-wing prosecutors in various states, and the Department of Justice utilized the justice system as a weapon against Donald J. Trump and many of his supporters. They indicted him on various charges in multiple jurisdictions, most of which were heavily anti-Trump, hoped to put Trump away for life, depleted him of funds, and tried to prevent him from taking office by way of the Fourteenth Amendment. Fortunately, Americans saw these despicable efforts for what they were, rejected them, and overwhelmingly reelected Trump. While President Trump’s main concern is to fix the country, he must also seek accountability against those who weaponized the justice system against the very citizens it is meant to protect. Such accountability is needed to heal the Nation, restore faith in our system of justice, and deter such conduct in the future.

Fortunately, accountability could be coming soon. During a recent interview with Steve Bannon, Mike Davis, a former law clerk for Neil Gorsuch and the founder and president of the Article III Project, stated:

"I just had several meetings at the Trump Justice Department. I met with the attorney general, Pam Bondi, the deputy attorney general, Todd Blanche, the acting No. 3 Chad Maisel, and the incoming No. 3, Stanley Woodward. And I want to reassure the War Room posse that they are very much on top of what's happening in our country, right? And just because you're not seeing criminal indictments right now, that does not mean they're not coming. They are very much incoming. Justice is definitely coming. Let me just assure the War Room posse, justice is coming and there's going to be accountability for this unprecedented, republic-ending lawfare where the Biden Justice Department was politicized ... there's going to be accountability for a lot of these crimes. It takes time to build these crimes. [FBI Director] Kash Patel is there, he's doing a hell of a good job, so is Dan Bongino, his deputy. Justice is coming. So just because we don't see it publicly does not mean it's not happening. I know what's happening."

Davis is correct that it takes time to build such cases. Care must be taken to properly collect evidence, obtain witness statements, and ensure that any legal recourse that is pursued is supported by the law and the facts. The goal is to develop as strong a case as possible to enable prosecutors to prevail when a suit is filed and/or charges are brought.

Predictably, Democrats are already asserting that Trump is on a dangerous “revenge tour” and that he is weaponizing the justice system. As a matter of fact, the same America-last Democrats who weaponized and abused the system against Trump and his supporters are now accusing Trump and Republicans of weaponizing the system by seeking to remove/deport dangerous individuals who are, on many occasions, in the country illegally. This is rich and highly ironic. It is also entirely incorrect.

The need for accountability does not stem from revenge, nor should it. Rather, accountability is needed to heal the Nation, restore the people’s faith in our system of justice, and to deter such reprehensible lawfare from occurring in the future.

During Biden’s term in office, many Americans suffered at the hands of a weaponized justice system. People were arrested, charged, and forced to spend time behind bars simply because they spoke out against the results of an election. Various people were deprived of due process. A former president and leading presidential candidate faced various baseless and politicized criminal charges and/or civil suits. Anti-Trump judges “created” law from the bench or ignored it altogether, ignored the Constitution, refused to recuse themselves under circumstances where recusal was clearly warranted, and did their best to rush cases to trial before the election in hopes of “stopping Trump.”

Trump’s efforts to remove/deport individuals who are in the country illegally is also not an act of “revenge,” but a concerted and genuine effort to protect Americans from dangerous, unvetted, and other individuals who illegally entered the country when Biden was president.

The Trump administration cannot sit idly by and allow such dangerous, irresponsible, and egregious conduct to go unchecked. Accountability is needed because this conduct significantly harmed the Nation and its citizens. It is needed to restore the people’s faith in our system of justice. Finally, it is needed to send a strong and powerful message that such conduct will not be tolerated and that those who engage in such conduct will be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law.
