It’s kind of a silly question – why hate an actress whose only “crime” is being out of your league? Maybe some people are really, really scarred from high school, and by some people I mean leftists.
That seems to be the fate of Sydney Sweeney, the extremely attractive, moderately talented actress who became more well known for a jeans commercial than anything else she’s done. As I said, she’s a fine actress – not going to win an Oscar anytime soon, but also won’t ruin any project she’s in. She’s fine at what she does, which is not unusual in an industry where nepo babies and emotionally damaged people take out their parental issues on an unsuspecting public.
People in Hollywood tend to have issues, to put it mildly. There is a lot of drug use, sexual abuse, perversions, and egos. Oftentimes, all in the same person.
There’s no reason to think this applies to Sweeney, who seems perfectly affable and willing to do whatever will get a laugh or help the project. The only people who have an unkind word to say about her are the people who do not have anything to do with working with her or even in the entertainment industry.
Mostly the political types.
I don’t know Sweeney’s politics, nor do I care. If I only watched movies or TV shows from people who agreed with me politically, I…actually, I can’t think of anything I’d be able to watch at all. Life too short to bother with that.
While Robert De Niro hasn’t made a good movie this century, before Trump Derangement Syndrome broke his head, he made some great pictures. Alec Baldwin in 30 Rock was one of the funniest characters ever created, and Breaking Bad was made by people who’d vote me off the island at their first chance, yet it still remains some of the best television ever created.
But, as a conservative, I don’t have a purity test for people I allow into my existence. Liberals do – they are, after all, the originators of the “one-drop rule.”
When Sweeney did her jeans ad, the “Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon” game started to find a way to connect her to MAGA. I didn’t follow how far along it got because the concept itself was stupid, but it struck me as typical for the left.
Sweeney is physically appealing to more people than literally everyone who spoke at the 2024 Democratic National Convention combined. Not that they’re completely ugly, though many are; it’s just that she’s what the average American man would make if given access to the factory to design a woman.
This does not sit well with the unattractive. Sydney Sweeney is a 3D reminder of the fact that no matter what they do with diet and exercise, they will never be more than a California three. Insecure people hate reminders of their unattractiveness, the fact that their parents didn’t love them, or whatever else haunts their dreams.
Now, Sweeney is back in the news for a sports betting ad she did where she appeared naked. Well, not really naked, but creatively covered up with sports equipment.
Because being offended should be an Olympic event with leftists, an Australian water polo player – yeah, I know, but this is the society the left has constructed: one in which they will elevate anyone who whines in a way people in the media wish they could whine, so they report it like it’s news.
The player, Matilda Kearns, wrote on Instagram, “I absolutely f***g hate Sydney Sweeney's new sports ad” and concluded, “Like what are we doing … so much worse than I imagined too. Here’s some real women sports content.”
She posted a video of her team working out.
The problem is, Sydney Sweeney didn’t do a “sports ad”; she did an ad for a sports betting app. There’s a big difference. If she doesn’t understand that, isn’t the problem hers?
The problem is hers, and the problem of everyone who sees something and immediately doesn’t like it because they view it as reinforcing cultural beauty standards. Not everyone is good-looking; fewer people still are genuinely beautiful. If you’re bothered by that fact, it says more about you than all the therapy in the world will ever uncover.
We normal people, and some of the ugly ones, need to just become comfortable in our own skin and be thankful that natural beauty exists for us to admire, maybe even date or marry, if they lower their standards enough!
I’m kidding, mostly. But it is time we stop fretting about what the perma-offended class thinks about anything and just get on with our lives. Enjoy the beauty you see, where you find it, and just let the rest go. Or at least get a damn hobby.
