I am proud to say that I’ve never been a fan of Candace Owens. I’ve never really found her appealing in any way; she struck me as someone a mile wide and an inch deep. There’s a difference between being a good salesman and believing in what you’re selling and I believe Owens live in the former category.

There’s nothing wrong with that; it would be nice to have true believers be able to articulate a message for your cause or product, but sometimes the people who actually believe in something are absolutely horrible at talking about it and convincing others to try it.

The “mercenary” mentality is an important part of business and politics, but it does come back to bite you in the ass every once in a while, too.

Owens used to be a liberal who was allegedly involved in doxxing conservatives. Then she wasn’t; she suddenly became a conservative on everything. I never trust anyone who changes their politics overnight.

I don’t care what she did or believed in the past; I don’t trust people who flip on everything all at once. Arianna Huffington and David Brock were media “conservatives” who switched on a dime to be doctrinaire liberals. Michael Steele gave up everything he’d professed to hold near and dear to his heart because MSNBC drove a Brinks truck to his house and dumped it out on his lawn.

I get that people will change their opinions on things throughout their life – I don’t really want to associate with people who do not continues to think about issues, even those they hold to be true, as they age and experience more – but I will forever be suspect (which is the polite way to put it) of anyone who flips on everything, suddenly. Human beings simply do not work like that.

Money is the most obvious motivator, and then there is attention. I don’t understand the mentality of those who can be bought, if that’s what it is, or those who are so desperate for attention that they’d expose themselves as massive hypocrites in order to get people to pay attention to them.

For some people, the type of attention they get – good or bad – is irrelevant; they simply crave and need the attention. It’s these people who do real harm to political causes if they involve themselves in them. They bring attention, then fundraise off it and take such a huge cut of the take that the fundraising might as well not have happened as far as the cause or candidate goes.

But they do get the money. That’s the thing about attention-seekers: they do know how to get attention. It can be conspiracy theories, paranoid declarations or simply provably false and stupid statements.

You might wonder how it is that anyone can make a living being this way, but you can make A LOT of money off a relatively small group of dedicated people. If you hit a nerve with people, they will send you money, subscribe to whatever, buy whatever and never once think they’re being conned. In the movie The Sting, it is said that the “mark,” if a con is done properly, will live the rest of their life without ever knowing they were conned. That’s true in every aspect of con-artistry, too.

When not accusing everyone under the sun of being involved in the murder of Charlie Kirk, Owens has taken to her Twitter account to announce that the French President and his wife have hired assassins to kill her. “Two days ago I was contacted by a high-ranking employee of the French Government. After determining this person’s position and proximity to the French couple, I have deemed the information they gave me to be credible enough to share publicly in the event that something happens. In short, this person claims that the Macrons have executed upon and paid for my assassination. Yes, you read that correctly. More specifically, that the green light was given to a small team in National Gendamarie Intervention Group. I am told there is one Israeli that is on this assasination (SIC) squad and the plans were formalized.”

It's beyond stupid, but some suckers buy into it. And naturally, some “Jew” is involved too, because pretty much everything is the fault of Jews now to Owens.

I don’t know if she’s an anti-Semite or finds that so easy to stir up and make money off of that, she’s simply taking this path for now. And I don’t care. I’ve never cared. The only reason she got television hits is that she was a black woman espousing something close to conservatism and conservative media is so pathetic that if a story involved a black liberal, they feel compelled to find a black conservative to talk about it so they aren’t called racist. Yes, it’s really that pathetic.

The whole thing is that pathetic. It’s a con, from top to bottom, and everyone is involved except the mark. Do not be the mark; don’t follow morons. Make people earn your admiration and your money. And if they go off the rails, you do not have to go with them. Sanity and rational thought are not overrated and loyalty, true loyalty, is a 2-way street.
