Well, it’s official: Nancy Pelosi has decided not to seek reelection, choosing to spend more time with the hundreds of millions she and her partner in insider trading, tipsy driver Paul, managed to pull together by outperforming every major mutual fund on the planet over the same time. She will be missed…by someone…I assume.
Not me. To hell with her. Not being in her will, I see no redeeming value in her existence one way or the other. That she will only be a Congressional pension parasite is a step in the right direction.
Though she won’t actually leave Congress until January of 2027. Have you ever known anyone to need that much runway to retire? When you have an ego that dwarfs a C-130, you need a lot of runway, it would seem.
What can we expect in the next year, as her majesty very, very slowly leaves Congress? Not much, or at least not much different.
Nancy Pelosi does not serve on any committees in the House of Representatives, a move usually reserved for punishment since that’s where non-leadership Members have any chance whatsoever to have an impact on legislation or to have moments where they can make the news in hearings. But if you’re all-powerful – the REAL leader of Democrats in the House, you don’t have to serve on any committees because they all do your bidding.
That’s the worst-kept secret in Washington, DC: Nancy Pelosi is still the leader of Democrats in the House and always will be.
She raises more money than anyone, and if you think that’s going to stop, you’re crazy. Nancy Pelosi doesn’t have to be in Congress to wield influence, either to buy or sell it. In Pelosi’s case, it’s likely to be to keep the information train rolling.
Knowledge is power, but information is money in politics. Look at the incoming Governor of New Jersey, Mikie Sherrill, who made $7 million trading defense industry stocks while serving on the Armed Services Committee. Hilariously, she claimed to not really remember raking in that cash the only time she was asked about it – as much a failure of the left-wing media as it was of her character (great work, New Jersey).
Sherrill’s $7 million is a drop in the bucket compared to what Nancy Pelosi both made for herself – we’re talking hundreds of millions – and raised for the party, which has always been her key to power.
Aside from maybe in the primary the first time she ran, Nancy Pelosi has never really needed money for her campaign. She represents one of the most rabidly left-wing places on the planet, so a Republican is never going to give her a run and it would have been career suicide to challenge her in a Democrat primary. All the money she raised was used to build up her power.
While I have no doubt her campaign “employed” family members and friends at various times, mostly for no-show “jobs” because she never really had to campaign, and friends (or their kids) because you gotta spend that money somehow.
The rest of it was passed around to Democrats who faced races, to build (or, more accurately, buy) influence. For all the liberals whining about “the corrupting power of money in politics,” every one of their “leaders” got to that position by tossing around a ton of money in politics.
Do you really think Democrats across the country were loyal to Pelosi because she’s such a wonderful person? Hell no! She helped get them into power and had the ability to either keep them there by intimidating primary challenges or retire them by inviting those challenges, all without leaving any fingerprints.
Pelosi comes from a political family out of the corrupt Baltimore Democrat machine, where her father and brother were both big players. You don’t think she didn’t learn how to get and maintain power through hard work, do you? The apple doesn’t rot far from the tree.
In the year-plus of her farewell tour, expect Nancy Pelosi to be showered with more awards and praise than anyone knew existed – hell, they’re probably going to create some new awards named after her for the occasion. But don’t expect her to actually go away.
She’ll still be raising and allocating money, probably in exchange for stock tips. I mean, if she was willing to be as brazen in her corruption as she was when she had to file financial disclosure forms, just imagine what she’ll do when she’s unburdened by those pesky, prying eyes. The next phase of Nancy Pelosi’s corruption is only just beginning. Imagine how big it could get if one of her kids “wins” that seat.
