I’m not a fan of Jimmy Kimmel, I prefer comedy to fat, angry political lectures. I’m old fashioned that way. But I don’t think there is a story where more elements of it have been wrong or lied about – depending on whether the person doing it is a moron or evil – than the one about “Kimmel Being Canceled By Trump!” It’s disgusting, it’s stupid and it is a fraud, which is why Democrats have embraced it, as the truth does them no good.
The blackface aficionado has not been “fired” at all, he’s suspended. You’d think people who make their living with words would understand what they mean. Since he hasn’t been fired,
Donald Trump did not fire him. Brendan Carr, Chairman of the Federal Communications Commission, did not force or threaten ABC into firing Kimmel because A) he wasn’t fired, and B) the FCC revoking a broadcast license is a long, arduous process that would likely fail – according to Google, “The last known instance of an FCC license revocation occurred in the early 1970s against a television station that broadcast racially discriminatory content.”
Literally nothing about the story is true, starting with what Kimmel told his audience about Charlie Kirk’s assassin being MAGA. He was reportedly going to argue he was misunderstood, but he’s the idiot who said it and nothing related to “comedy” should require explanation, so the idea that it was a “joke” is another lie.
The fact is he’s not good at his job. I’m not talking about hosting, I’m talking about attracting an audience, since that is his real job. He’s been hemorrhaging viewers for years, just like Colbert has. They decided to be pundits and replace punchline with applause lines. Watch one of their monologues, you don’t hear laugher, you hear agreement and clapping.
There aren’t that many Americans who want to be lectured by political hacks as they drift off to sleep, no matter the side they’re on.
If Colbert was losing $40 million per year, how much is Kimmel losing? There’s no way he’s making a profit for ABC, for Disney. Since he’s been in the basement of ratings for late night for a long time, he must’ve cost the network $100 million by now. I can promise you that if a prime time show were costing the network money it would have been replaced 10 times by now.

For some reason, these late night shows were allowed to continue. Is suspect I know why: they are produced by Democrats, for Democrats, as an in-kind donation for Democrats by companies that are also run by Democrats.
There are very strict laws governing political contributions, both by corporations and individuals, that set limits on how much can be given. Letting your company set huge piles of cash on fire on behalf of one political party is one way to get around those limits.
“It was just a programming decision” is the defense, but we all know it was a lie. If you watch the publishing industry, you see books published by little-known or little-liked politicians who somehow got attention for some left-wing cause. That woman in Texas who whined about abortion – remember when they tried to make her into something? She couldn’t win an election, let alone sell books. Was any human being yearning for a book by some back-bench nobody in the Michigan state legislature? No, they weren’t, yet we got one from some woman– Mallory McMorrow – who gave a speech that went semi-viral on the left.
Much of entertainment and publishing industries are as much an in-kind donation to Democrats as the corporate media is.
Every Disney stockholder should be piss off at that idea that the people with a fiduciary duty to them are not exercising it properly and are using their money, probably their retirement, to finance a political donation workaround.
As for Kimmel, to hell with that douchebag. Adam Carolla swears he’s a good and generous person, but someone who is either wouldn’t even attempt to “joke” about the murder of another human being, let alone do it for political purposes. And even if they did and it fell flat, they’d realize the missed the mark and apologize.
The lack of that decency to apologize for lying (if I’m being honest) or being wrong (if I’m being generous, which I am not) is why ABC yanked him. The “good and decent” man was ready to double down on the lie because he holds the people he lied about in contempt. Someone not being a dick to people they’ve been friends with for years doesn’t mean they aren’t a dick, it just means they aren’t a dick to you. There’s a difference.
I honestly don’t care if Kimmel gets back on the air any more than I care if he lives or dies. He is a non-entity in my life as I am in his. But I can look at what he did, when and why he did it, and his reaction to the blowback and revel in his misery.
Everyday people are presented with the option to be an asshole or not, and Jimmy Kimmel chose to be one to half the country every night for years. Half the country finally had enough and struck back, calling their local ABC stations and getting them to pull his show. Losing half their markets caused ABC to pull the whole thing. That’s not an attack on the First Amendment, that is the First Amendment in action. Democrats just don’t like it because it isn’t them exercising it. To hell with all of them.
He'll probably be back, Disney wants to help Democrats and it’s hard to find a complete whore willing to do what Kimmel did (most people have at least some dignity), so enjoy this time. And maybe the Department of Justice or the Federal Election Commission could look into why these companies are so willing to lose a ton of money only on these types of shows?
