Democrats, Please Run: Pete Buttigieg

It’s always amusing to me who Democrats view as being their “star” at any given moment. That the person the party has chosen to elevate changes daily tells you just how screwed they know they are. As such, I figured I’d highlight who they’re flying as a test candidate from time to time, as they pop up like a cold sore on a hooker. This week it’s Secretary Mayor Pete Buttigieg.

That Pete Buttigieg was ever a serious candidate, let alone the winner of the 2020 Iowa Caucuses, is a testament to the power of identity politics in the Democratic Party.

Pete is gay, which also happens to be the entirety of his list of accomplishments. As Mayor of South Bend, Indiana, he didn’t accomplish anything, famously screwing up a bike path initiative. That’s it, nothing else.

With that as his resume, he ran for the Democratic nomination for president in 2020. He was a viable candidate for longer than he should have been, but only because of his sexuality. You’d like to think a major political party wouldn’t be so shallow, but they are.

After the party, in fear of Bernie Sanders, coalesced around the corpse called Joe Biden, Pete became Secretary of Transportation. His biggest accomplishment in that office? Honestly, I’m asking because I don’t know. No one knows.

I guess finding a way to spend $80 billion on DEI garbage is a skill most people don’t have. The New York Post reports, “Buttigieg spent his time in President Joe Biden’s cabinet blaming the airlines for their delays and ‘vilifying’ the industry as a whole while denying his department’s DEI agenda led to any air traffic control staffing shortages or was maintaining an ailing safety system that hasn’t been updated since the Carter administration.”

Remember that next time your flight is delayed or your bags are lost, Pete was on the job!

Even the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee is trying to fundraise off Pete, which is odd considering how Pete has NEVER BEEN A MEMBER OF CONGRESS.

It’s rare for a former Cabinet Secretary to rate in the political fundraising game, at least by proxy. If they are running themselves, sure, but not fundraising off someone who’s never accomplished anything beyond being confirmed as a Democrat by a Democrat-controlled Senate, which is like getting a par in putt-putt mini golf.

The email opens, “We don’t know what else to say: WE TOLD YOU Trump loyalists are threatening the very foundation of our democracy. WE TOLD YOU House Republicans are raising TENS OF MILLIONS to hold onto their razor-thin Majority so that NO ONE can stand in Trump's way. WE TOLD YOU Democratic heroes like Pete Buttigieg are speaking out to STOP Trump's Republicans from enacting their destructive agenda.”

Pete’s a “hero”? I think Democrats might have gotten a defective dictionary at some point in their lives, a joke one, and the person pulling the prank on them died before revealing what they’d done.

“Pete is absolutely right,” they say. “If we want to show Donald Trump that the American people bow to no king, we must deliver a House majority that will stop his agenda in its tracks -- NO ONE can sit on the sidelines. But right now, Donald Trump is OBSESSED with hanging on to power. He’s prepared to raise $1 BILLION from shady megadonors to prop up the GOP’s razor-thin majority. We cannot let Republicans outraise us at this critical moment.”

Democrats out-raised Donald Trump in 2024 by a lot. But no amount of money can polish a turd. But maybe they can fundraise off one.

One thing to notice about these Democrats is how far left they are willing to go, or need to go, to get attention. AOC doesn’t need to do anything, and Mamdani doesn’t either. Bernie is worshiped like a god. AOC might run, but deep-down Democrats know she can’t get across the line because she can’t answer questions. Bernie is too old, Zohran wasn’t born here.

That leaves people like the California Hairdo Gavin Newsom and Pete Buttigieg to offer hope. No matter how down you get in life, if you remember the choices Democrats have right now because of their actions and how horrible they are, that should make you feel better. If not, nothing will.
