You can see why Democrats were so desperate for Taylor Swift to endorse Kamala Harris: they have nothing else. While the vast majority of the entertainment industry, when not covering up for Harvey Weinstein’s sex crimes or attending P Diddy's humiliation orgies, is absolutely at home with the Democratic Party, the “star power” of the entertainment world has severely faded. Who are the “stars” anymore? No names leap to mind, which leaves the party with recycling has-beens in an attempt to appeal to an ever-dwindling slice of the public who not only cares, but also has any idea who these people are.

Swift is a star – you won’t find anyone outside of a coma ward who doesn’t know who she is. Whether or not they like her has more to do with whether or not they have taste. Since a lot of people do not, she’s now a billionaire and probably the most famous woman on the planet.

As for movies, I don’t even know who would qualify these days. Maybe DiCaprio, but not in any real sense. He’s a good actor, but who cares beyond that? There’s no glamor attached to him, just a pathetic string of chicks old enough to be his daughter. I don’t begrudge or blame him, but that doesn’t turn an actor into a “movie star.”

Lacking the star power of years past, Democrats are stuck going back to the well to wring the last few drops out of “stars” from the past.

When was the last time anyone got excited over Martin Sheen? That’s an honest question, not one I’m posing to be mean. The last role he had that had any impact was on the West Wing, which went off the air in 2006, fully 18 years ago, after having premiered in 1999, or 25 years ago. Millions of voters have no idea who Sheen is, millions more having not  thought about him since then.

Yet, he’s one of the most frequent fundraising emailers the Democratic Party employs. They send emails in his name all the time, always “reminding” the reader that he played the president on a TV show before many of them were born. It’s kind of sad, really. The guy was in Apocalypse Now, for crying out loud, now he’s the moral equivalent of a reserve mortgage salesman for Kamala Harris and the DNC.

I looked at Meryl Streep’s IMDB page and it’s been a while since I saw anything she’s made, even longer since I saw anything she’s made that was good. Unburdened by work these days, and having more money than sense, she’s dedicated herself to left-wing causes and candidates like Kamala who are promising to raise taxes on the income of people who have income, unlike Meryl. It’s easy to be generous with other people’s money, isn’t it?

Then there’s Barbra Streisand. There are egos, and then there is Babs.

Part social experiment, part self-torture – I subjected myself to the audio version of her autobiography and it did not disappoint, or it did disappoint completely, depending on how you want to look at it.

Streisand is an insufferable person who loves herself more than anyone else could (or would want to). The book was hour upon hour of self-indulgence framed as profound insight. The only things I remember are the excruciating details about food she ate at events and the clothes she wore to those events. There was not real reflection, no peek behind the curtain, just an “Oprah’s Favorite Things” list of wildly expensive indulgences spoken about like everyone can afford them, because anyone Babs has her security allow to get near her can afford them, the rest of the great unwashed are only welcome to buy her products and go away, as she’s not a fan of selfies or autograph seekers. So gross.

She’s now sending emails for Democrats too.

The “stars” of the Democratic Party are what washes up on a beach in the days and weeks after a party – stale remnants of what once was but sure as hell is not now. Were they not such horrible people, you might be inclined to feel sorry for them. But they really are awful people. And just so I’m clear, they aren’t awful people because they are Democrats, they’re Democrats because they are awful people.

Within a cycle or two, Democrats will be completely out of celebrities who matter – movie stars and rock stars are fading into the ether. Let us hope their poisonous politics go with them.
