First Amendment Strike Force – MS NOW

  • Such a shame everyone has the same rights as you, Katy.

It could be a challenge to find a better example of the elitism in the press than this example from Katy Tur. She literally is lamenting — she says she is “dismayed” — that President Trump and others have the unfettered right to speak their mind.

Tur was very bothered that we no longer have just a handful of news outlets gatekeeping the news, and that there are myriad outlets to get information. On top of that, the President and other leaders are just free to say whatever they want. This is seen as a problem for the woman whose very career hinges on the First Amendment.

  •  I don't know what the solution is. Part of the free speech in this country is that anyone can say anything, and that includes, to our dismay, our officials and the President of the United States. Tell me how he's using that and why it is so detrimental.

Reporting On The Mirror – CBS NEWS

  • It is so unfair how she was…um, held accountable.

Sharyn Alfonsi, the troubled “60 Minutes” correspondent who was embattled with new news division leader Bari Weiss, has officially been let go from the network, as we had speculated previously. Sharyn had some expected bitter words for Weiss as she departed the network.

That was simply a poor choice of wording by the reporter. She herself was held accountable for her infamous episode over her report on CECOT, which was pulled to get comments from the administration. Sharyn claimed at the time that it was censorship. She also claimed that she had tried to get comments from the administration but never heard back. It later became clear that no fewer than three sources had responded to her, but she elected to omit them from her report.

When the segment did air weeks later, those responses were included, and they were dated from before the originally scheduled air date.

Pathological Media Amnesia – THE INDEPENDENTS

  • Now, the checkups that have been called for are seen as the problem?

There is probably no more neutered subject matter in the press than the well-being of President Trump. After years of hiding, denying, and then being proven to have been lied to about former President Joe Biden’s condition, the press is now on a vigilant watch on Trump’s health. To hear anyone in the press mentioning the topic today leads to an instant shutdown of the conversation.

Showing the impotent nature of this is Chris Cillizza, who seems to think that Trump's making regular visits for monitoring is a sign of trouble. The people who had been demanding that Trump be monitored now see it as problematic that he goes in for a six-month rotation of health monitoring checkups.

Both Kinds Of Standards – ROLLING STONE

  • Say, gang, since you are looking into the record of candidates…

Rolling Stone is clearly coming out against Spencer Pratt in the Los Angeles Mayoral election. It is not a real surprise, but at the same time, you have to marvel at the lack of introspection as they lean heavily on the candidate. In its third feature on Pratt this month, the outlet looks into his lack of bona fides for the office of mayor. Curiously…they did NOT look into the record of Karen Bass, whom they have not covered since last year.

Hmmm, they complain about Pratt’s high level of self-assuredness, but it does not show that he is good at anything. That sounds quite like the journalism seen from this outlet.

News Avoidance Syndrome – VARIETY

  • The use of that qualifier is disputed by the facts.

Variety has also been in on the Pratt candidacy (with little concern for the incumbent), and it shows its bias in this curious report. Variety is covering how Pratt has questionable details in his past, and he mentioned Ms. Bass having a history of communist sympathies, and that she had visited the island of Cuba in her own days of youth.

This has already been a fact, but the outlet in recounting Pratt mentioning her history says he “claimed” Bass supported Castro.

Glossary Over Things – THE INDEPENDENTS

  • Imagine a conservative being granted this excuse.

The list of those defending Graham Platner and his Nazi death camp tattoo continues to expand. For the latest, we have this excuse, where the intentional act of having ink permanently displayed on your skin is described as “an accidental tattoo”.

Just…magnificent stuff, that.
