Pathological Media Amnesia – POLITICO

  • It is right there under your masthead.

The press continues with its tepid attempt to make the case against former FBI Director James Comey and others a novel move being made by the Justice Department. The people who were all harmonizing the phrase “No one is above the law” sure seem to forget they were belting out that chorus when Joe Biden was overseeing the DOJ targeting former Trump administration officials. And Donald Trump. Repeatedly.

Over at Politico, Dasha Burns tried to sell this same storyline, pretending that bringing accountability to the very people who engaged in lawfare was opening Pandora’s box. We felt the need to remind Dasha of the media excitement we all saw when Biden’s DOJ published the mugshots of Trump officials—including her own outlet at the time.

Pounce of Prevention – USA TODAY

  • Sure, it is bad, but not as bad as the GOP reaction!

It is amazing to watch the press grapple with having to cover the Jay Jones texting fiasco. You know, the Virginia Democrat attorney general candidate guy who said he’d shoot a GOP member in the head. And piss on his grave. And see his children killed to teach them a lesson.

At USA Today, Phillip Bailey shows the strain in covering this story, as the first thing you see is a reliance on describing that disturbing exchange as a “joke.” But then the fallback is, of course, highlighting the Republicans who have the temerity to notice these distressing comments he made. “Republicans are pouncing on the scandal.”

DNC PR Firm – MSNBC

  • A phone tap by any other name…

As the news leaked that Jack Smith had obtained the phone records of numerous Republicans on the Hill, Ken Dilanian was there to ride in and defend the honor of Biden’s lapdog prosecutor. He has been rather desperate to clear the good name of Smith, declaring that he only obtained the phone numbers exchanged by the politicians, and that he never listened in or gathered their text messages. (Ken is offended you would even suggest such a thing!)

Mr. Dilanian has also said that Jack did not need a subpoena, as a grand jury allowed this. (It seems more would be needed for snooping on sitting politicians, but what do we know?) But best of all is that while Jack did all of this on the sly, and never announced or revealed previously that he was doing this, the last thing anyone should suggest is that Smith was spying on these Republicans! All he did was snoop through their phone records!

Stealth Story Evolution – HUFFINGTON POST

  • For all of this coverage, we cannot wait to see actual evidence.

There has been a sense of desperate wishcasting taking place concerning the accusation that Border Czar Tom Homan is guilty of taking a $50,000 bribe, as he was caught on camera in an FBI sting. Let’s just start by saying, there are a few holes in this story.

There are discrepancies, such as he was allegedly selling access to the Trump White House, but this exchange was said to have taken place last summer, and Homan was in the private sector with a security consulting firm, the very business he is accused of taking a bribe over. Meanwhile, the FBI looked into the matter and closed the case as a nothingburger.

This emanates from an MSNBC report…except it never showed this video. MSNBC also never saw the video. It reported this was “according to an internal summary of the case and sources.” So this is all based on leaks from anonymous sources, with no firm evidence to be seen.

Now, HuffPo comes out to say that there are still those doggedly looking into the matter.

Okay, wait, not only do we still lack tangible evidence, but it has now morphed into an audio recording, and not Homan caught on video?! (Also, note Jennifer Bendery does not use the term “alleged,” casting Homan as already guilty.) Sorry, but we will need something in the form of actual evidence to get worked up about this claim.

Prose & Contradiction – THE INDEPENDENTS

  • The show is the apex of journalism – and expecting them to perform journalism is a ghastly threat!

The move to install journalist Bari Weiss as the editor-in-chief at CBS News continues to create wailing and teeth gnashing for many in journalism circles. We have stumbled upon our favorite reaction to this point.

To refresh, Weiss has upset many by issuing, on her first day, a directive on how she expects the network reporters and anchors to perform their duties from a journalistic standpoint. She has dastardly ideas, such as relying on facts, reporting the truth, and holding both sides of politics responsible. Just unacceptable expectations, from the sound of many. Former Fox News contributor Julie Roginsky sees a dire threat looming for the network’s vaunted news program.

We are trying to wrap our heads around the concept that “60 Minutes” is the pinnacle of journalism, and yet, expecting the show to adhere to rather basic journalism standards poses an inherent threat to the show.

That alone explains so much that has been witnessed from the program in recent years.

News Avoidance Syndrome – VARIOUS OUTLETS

  • Well, you see, there were no explosions; therefore, it is not really newsworthy.

Consider some of the stories from the recent news cycles. Political violence, rhetoric possibly leading to attacks, the assault on a Mormon church, and, not least of all, the sentencing of the man (claimed to be female) who threatened to kill Justice Brett Kavanaugh.

Now, with all of those fresh on the brain, is it not rather curious that the press has had little to no interest in covering the case of the man who was halted before targeting a church with bombing materials, expecting some of our Supreme Court justices to be in attendance?

Well, not all that curious, once we see the attempted attacker had a manifesto that comes from a decidedly leftist point of view.
