Matching Media Memorandum – VARIOUS OUTLETS

  • You say this was not seen before?

There was widespread news that President Trump suspended the Secret Service protection for former Vice President Kamala Harris. They delivered implications from outlets such as CBS News and ABC News that this was a crude and mean move. Two things are elided in this coverage:

  1. It is common for former VPs to lose this protection after six months.

  2. Harris had a longer service, thanks to Joe Biden making it possible.

So they are literally trying to sell the concept that it was mean of Trump to suspend the special coverage that Harris was actually entitled to receive.

Presentation Paradox – BBC

  • It is tough keeping to this forced narrative, isn’t it?

In covering the Minnesota shooting, there has been a struggle by some outlets to adhere to their own insistence that the shooter was a female. The BBC exemplified this battle by referring to the shooter as a “gunman” as well as “her”.

Anti-Social Media – EUGENE WEEKLY

  • Let’s chalk this up to deeply troubling timing.

As the media are scrambling to either avoid mentioning the Minnesota shooter was a trans individual, some of those who have acknowledged this reality have been in hyper-defense mode.

The narrative is that it is wrong for those on the Right to bring up this condition and to imply there is an issue with violence from members of this group. Yet here we have a weekly publication in Oregon putting out a rather stark rebuttal to this position.

Gilded Reframe – NBC NEWS

  • The last thing you would want to do is offend a dead murderer!

Another outlet struggling with this gender fluidity was NBC News, which apparently felt horrible for possibly besmirching the nature of a murderous ghoul who attacked young children in a school.

Not only is it stupid to see a need to correct the misgendering of a dead killer, but the shooter himself had called out his own desire to become a female.

Artisanally-Crafted Narratives – CNN

  • We might need some more evidence before we buy into your premise, Ms. Cupp.

In a bizarre comparison seen on the nightly thunderdome panel on the Abby Philip show, S. E. Cupp was seated and delivered a rather head-scratching comparison.

Invoking the name of Ashli Babbitt, the one victim of violence from January 6, Ms. Cupp declared that the victim is on par with serial killers.

We cannot even begin to contemplate where she was going with this analysis.
