Race to the Bottom – CNN

  • Try this with any other race, Erin…

When the news broke of an active shooter in New York City, CNN — “the most trusted name in news” — had live coverage of the incident, with Erin Burnett hosting the coverage. Immediately, during the establishment of the details, Burnett came out to describe the shooter as “possibly white.”

Early reports are frequently fluid with details and likely to shift as clarity arrives, but honestly, how often would we hear this description used if they were suspected of being from any other race? In fact, we see the opposite taking place more often. When the race of a killer is confirmed to be a minority, the media works to avoid mentioning this detail, or they walk away from the story entirely.

To clarify, Ms. Burnett was rather off target with her initial description of the gunman, Shane Tamura.

Gilded Reframe – ASSOCIATED PRESS

  • Were the details of the story too hard to find, or too inconvenient for the narrative?

It appears rather clear that the news syndicate is rather supportive of activist judges who are eager to overstep their local authority to step on President Trump’s agenda items. For the latest judicial flex, we have one robed rogue who wants to block the defunding of Planned Parenthood. One small problem with their approach.

This judge was not blocking a presidential executive order; she was trying to override an act of Congress that was signed into law.

Instead of cheerleading for this overstepping of authority, the AP should be calling out the violation of jurisprudence.

Both Kinds of Standards – SKY NEWS

  • From “starving them to death” to “helping them to death,” apparently.

Ever since the war between Hamas and Israel escalated, one of the common refrains has been how the Palestinian people are being starved. Israel has been blamed for blockades, attacks on aid stations, and/or preventing proper trade routes from being used. Of course, Hamas is largely going blameless despite being shown to have attacked their own people, hijacked trucks, stockpiled relief supplies, and sold them for profit.

So one alternative has been for Israel and other nations to air-drop supplies into the war-torn areas. But now we learn this is somehow also considered bad and harmful.

Artisanally-Crafted Narratives – CNN

  • “We condemn the help you provide and that we demanded!”

Getting relief aid to the Palestinian people is a perpetual hornet's nest of issues. Hamas hijacks deliveries and shoots at their own people, the U.N. has proven incapable of delivering supplies, and Israel gets blamed for any and all failings of the ceasefire that Hamas violates.

So the latest effort is to airdrop relief aid into the region – and now the Palestinians say they are insulted by this attempt. What will you not see in CNN reports? Criticism of Hamas for forestalling any and all attempts to help their own people.

Anti-Social Media – WASHINGTON POST

  • Taking the side of social media cranks is not the way to build up your paper’s reputation.

It has been a bizarre reality to watch the outcry from a clothing company hiring a comely spokeswoman. Actress Sydney Sweeney was hired to promote the latest line of jeans from American Eagle Outfitters. For reasons to do with resentment, divisiveness, and the need to politicize anything these days, there has been an outcry on the left, with every asinine accusation made, from sexism being used to Sweeney somehow promoting Nazism…because why not?!

The best is that in this piece they describe what American Eagle “got wrong,” as the company has been reportedly realizing a market cap increase to the tune of hundreds of millions, in a matter of days of her ad coming out.

Pre-Written Field Reports – AXIOS

  • It is simply HORRIBLE the way he succeeds in negotiations!

One of the best examples of how damaged our media complex has become is seen in the coverage of our economy, and specifically, tariffs. Any good news in the financial markets is deemed problematic, and any talk at all of tariffs is by default promising doom. That the economy is doing well and the stock market is booming — against every prediction — is all the reason to decry everything Trump manages.

Look for the latest in the way that his recent negotiations with Europe have delivered fantastic deals for the U.S. – and everyone seems pissed about it.

At Axios, they covered the recent agreements made, and it carries a distinctive theme: It is horrible the way the US came out on top with a fantastic trade deal.

In the Trump-dominated global economy, the U.S. gets plenty but gives nothing in return. This is the reality of the asymmetric trade deals touted by the White House. In return, those countries get some assurance on their tariff rate — both 15%, and both of which could have been worse — even if it puts their industries at a disadvantage.

This is not about being a sore winner. It is about being sore that Trump is the one making us into winners.
