Many actors feel that their job is to destroy the country we take for granted.

One of the more versatile fictional characters of the past 200 years has been Sherlock Holmes. While Sir Arthur Conan Doyle left the stories he penned, many—including this author—have employed Sherlock Holmes for cases beyond the official literary canon. Some actors such as Jeremy Brett followed the stories to the letter in the Granada series, while others like Basil Rathbone were not averse to bringing the great English detective to the (then) present. In one scene, when Rathbone’s Holmes and his arch-enemy Professor Moriarty are fighting over a bombsight for World War II, they discuss the ways that the latter could kill the former. “Gas, poison, bullets.” Holmes was supposed to die, and the only issue was how he would.

There are many actors that seem hellbent on destroying the United States. I am not talking about Cuba, Iran, or China. I mean people in the US whose goals and activities seem to be focused on ending what most of us feel is the best country around—by far. Sen. John Thune (R-SD) won’t pass a law that would help guarantee free and fair elections for future generations of Americans. He doesn’t want to pass the SAVE America Act that would require proof of citizenship and a photo ID. He and his chums realize that if that were to become the law of the land, there would be many more Trumps and far fewer Thunes in Washington. So he has taken it upon himself not to advance an idea that even 70 percent of Democrats feel is warranted. If it was just John Thune, the Republic would have a small problem. But Thune is one of many, each looking to his role in damaging the Republic.

Nearly every office, department, and branch of the federal government falls under the “Executive” wing of the US government. Sure, Congress and the Judiciary are huge and have their own people and programs, but the Executive Department is under the president’s rule. And as such, rubes like me would have expected that all federal employees would do that which the president and his hand-chosen representatives demand. Imagine a submarine in which the sailors decide to do whatever they want. Instead of being a well-ordered fighting machine, it is a circus of prima donnas, each doing whatever he so pleases. I go to the mess only to find that the cook wants to load torpedoes. Just as it would not work at sea, so too it does not work on land. We know that the FBI was busy trying to send Donald Trump to jail. The CIA seems to have its own program, once again separate from that of the chief executive, who was elected by We the People. And then that brings us to Tony Fauci.

Tony Fauci’s words show how vacuous and unserious a person he truly is. He was gobsmacked by celebrities blowing him kisses, while he mismanaged the biggest health emergency the country had seen in 100 years. Everything he said had no basis in science and was a lie: masking, distancing, school closings, origin of the virus, safety and efficacy of the mRNA vaccines. He was the scientific equivalent of Jim Cramer. If you bought and sold against the latter’s advice, you would be fabulously wealthy. If you ignored everything that Tony Fauci told you during COVID-19, you would be happy and healthy. My kids still remember being in Arizona and entering a Walmart where nobody was wearing masks. After flying 24 hours with strict mask requirements (“Put your masks on while you are chewing your food!”), it was like returning to a normal place.

So the question is the following: besides being a megalomaniac and fool, was he trying to get Donald Trump out of office? Did he tell Pfizer to hold off on reporting their vaccine data until after the election to hurt the president’s chances of reelection? Fauci’s hubris and misdirections are enough to put him in the Museum of Jerks, but was his handling of COVID-19 also meant as another rebellious act against the president of the United States? There is no question from the recently released “diary” material that he did not like Trump and positioned himself with the media and others who loathed the president. He knew that he could put Donald Trump in a corner, as the president had soured on the “two weeks to stop the spread”. Fauci relates a story of Trump screaming at Deborah Birx over the damage to the country by their approach. Was Fauci merely vain and incompetent, or was he, in an Inspector Clouseau kind of way, also trying like the FBI to get rid of the president?

As Kurt Schlichter and others have pointed out, Donald Trump is an avatar. He represents the ideas, dreams, and aspirations of tens of millions of Americans who saw a country take an off-ramp between presidents Clinton and Obama and want to get their country pointed once again in the right direction. What does MAGA want that is so repulsive and revolutionary? Closed borders like every other country has. Fair elections involving photo ID, again like in every other country in the world. The end to trans nonsense being foisted on children and the public. A solid military that can keep the US safe. A strong economy that rewards those who take risks by keeping taxes low. There is nothing radical about MAGA, but the real radicals, namely the Democrats morphing into socialists, cannot stand the sight of a traditional America, because it is a reflection of God. They want open borders, lots of free stuff, no more prisons, end of ICE, etc. If a person believes that dinner is cake and ice cream, the suggestion of chicken with potatoes and salad is downright revolutionary.

In the past, when Democrats were America-loving patriots, the stakes seemed smaller. The outcome of an election might decide tax rates and who gets access to welfare. Today, the very existence of the United States is on the menu. Self-proclaimed, well-to-do “Democratic Socialists of America” (DSA) have no problem going into an interview and demanding the effective end of the US as a Republic. Let’s get rid of the Senate! Pack the Supreme Court! Who needs cops? Empty the jails! Set up state grocery stores that will fail, as the ones in Moscow did a generation ago. These people are lunatics. The only pressing question right now is if there are enough sane Americans left to keep them away from the levers of power.

Let’s imagine the US surrounded by haters. The lefty press, academe, Democrats, unelected officials, Hollywood and musicians—all of them want to make the traditional country we know and love either disappear or change into something unrecognizable. I didn’t even add Russia, China, Iran and other external enemies, some of whom fund the groups above to do their bidding. How does the US allow hundreds of thousands of Chinese exchange students to be present, when some percentage of them is dedicated to sending sensitive data back to Beijing? How is Qatar allowed to fund K-12 and university education, when its Muslim Brotherhood teachings are an anathema to the fundamental freedoms of the country? It’s like the final scene in The Man in the White Suit, where everyone is trying to kill Alec Guinness: the tailor, the dry cleaner, union guys, clothing manufacturers. They see a threat and wish to end it. The good that is the US is a threat to ideological foes at home and abroad. And they will use whatever tools they have to get rid of the greatest country on the planet.
