One of the biggest problems we have in politics today is that a large part of the political spectrum accepts fantasy as the basis for policy.
There was a story of a big rabbi who was invited to give a talk at a synagogue. He arrived on time and prepared his speech. He noticed that there was not a soul in the place. He checked his watch and invitation, and he was at the right place at the right time. He thought about what to do. He decided to give his speech anyway. He spoke for an hour in his animated fashion, as if he were speaking before the hundreds he expected. When he finished, he heard a voice from the balcony: “Nice job, rabbi! Great speech!” There apparently had been one guy sleeping up there and he woke up to hear the lecture.
After nearly every article I send to Townhall, I think that one should be the last. I have addressed various topics from science to religion to Israel and modern American politics—and the Bears. There are others who write better and there are certainly others who have much bigger followings or are far more well-known. Then just as I plan to hang up my keyboard, someone will exhort me to keep writing. We’re in a battle between good and evil and the future of the US and the world. Everyone has to contribute, so maybe my continued scribbles here on this site will help to make this world a tad better. I have my detractors, but not one of them has shown a falsehood in my writing. Those who have pointed out my mistakes, I thank, and I generally ask the staff to correct errors as soon as possible. Those who say that Bauer is a liar or that Bauer is always wrong, bring the receipts or otherwise hang up another picture of Tucker Carlson.
My wife recently saw a program on “mashtapim”, which in Hebrew means Arabs who work with Israel to enhance her security. The interviews involved Palestinian Authority (PA) Arabs who have helped Israeli security services to either prevent deadly attacks or, if too late, help get the bad guys arrested. The most famous of the bunch is Mosab Hassan Yousef, known by many as the “Green Prince”. His father was a founding member of Hamas, and the younger Yousef actively aided Israeli officials in preventing mass bombings during the second intifada. He has continued his work as a Christian living in the US, never pulling punches or giving any quarter to the PA or Hamas. He knows them better than the rest, and he is brutal in his takedowns of lefties who try to speak in the name of Palestinians.

The fellows who appeared in the most recent show spoke of their torture at the hands of the PA. They were denied food and thoroughly beaten. One was left in a barrel of water on the roof of a PA building, only to be brought back to his cell, where they directed a fan on him to freeze him. Our lawyers have actually represented Palestinian citizens who have been tortured by the PA security services. We live in a crazy world when a right-wing Jewish Israeli lawyer is a Palestinian Muslim’s last best hope. The one point made by the fellows interviewed by Israel’s Channel 14 was that there will never be peace between Israel and the Palestinians. Not the Palestinian Authority, but the Palestinians writ large. This is an incredibly important point, one driven home by people who know their neighbors and their thoughts, goals, and dreams. In no arrangement can they see a state of Israel filled with Jews — no matter what the borders or the conditions for its existence. This is a key insight, because the Western left does not buy it and bases all of its programs and anti-Israel energies on some pie-in-the-sky scenario where Israelis and Palestinians live side-by-side in peace. Cue the violins.
And this is a common trope on the Left. Virtually every policy they have is based on a non-existent premise or assumption. For example:
- The Palestinians want peace; we just need to get past Hamas.
- The climate is changing due to human activity and we need to destroy the latter to save the world.
- Surgeries and drugs for children are okay because one actually can change his/her/its gender
- Iran never really wanted a bomb—read that fatwa closely!
- Bringing in endless numbers of illegals who hate their new countries is life-quality neutral for the locals.
As to the Palestinians, the PA was involved in more terror attacks than Hamas during the second intifada. All of the people involved in our attack were PA employees, and the issue of sending the bomber actually reached Yasir Arafat’s desk. There probably are Palestinians who want long-term peace, and if you can send them a bicycle built for two, they will be set.
Climate change, even if it were real, is not caused by humans. As the US Department of Energy notes, most carbon dioxide sent heavenward is produced by natural sources. But even so, a gas at 0.043 percent of the atmosphere is not causing the massive destruction and displacements sold to us by Al Gore and his disciples. Trillions have been wasted on a nonexistent fantasy problem.
Trans is a lie, like many others that exist to cut God out of the picture. Who says that there are only boys and girls and that God alone decides one’s sex? We can perform Mengele-level medicine on children in order to fulfill our fantasies that genders are interchangeable like socks. There will come a day when future generations will look at these practices and ask how such evil could exist in supposedly advanced countries.
A top Iranian official has stated that Iran has worked towards the bomb. Dual-use equipment, endless advanced centrifuges and 60 percent enriched uranium all make it clear that Iran wants a bomb. They have for decades threatened to wipe out both Israel and the United States, and the one sure way to do so is with atomic weapons. The present war, currently on pause, is a righteous effort to prevent lunatics from attaining and deploying weapons of mass destruction. Whereas the US has 60-year-old nuclear warheads whose continued performance must be verified, the mullahs of the week wouldn’t wait 60 minutes before shooting off their first nuclear-tipped ballistic missiles.
The suicide of the West is most quickly driven by uncontrolled immigration. Whether it be Mexicans into the US or Africans into France, the presence of massive numbers of people who should not be present can only destabilize a culture developed over centuries. The major drive for antisemitism in the West is fueled by endless Muslim illegal immigrants who bring all of their hatred of Jews and Christians with them. They are not coy about wanting to destroy European countries and the US and turn them into just a few more Sharia-compliant Islamic countries.
There was a story of an Air Canada flight that ran out of fuel. After a safe emergency landing, it was determined that the ground crew had exchanged pounds for kilograms, and the plane simply did not have enough fuel to finish its journey. When the left uses false premises as the basis for its policies, there can be no chance for success when they implement the same. Additionally, there is no room for political discussion or compromise. One person talks about going to a dentist while the other speaks of the tooth fairy.
Republicans jettisoned many RINOs in recent primaries as they realized that a radicalized left requires a staunch conservative right. Compromise requires both parties to be in the same reality. With Democrats, such is no longer the case.
