Western countries try to show how concerned they are by recognizing a country that does not exist.
Sometimes we believe that if we just simply will something, then it will be. Remember Hillary’s fancy post-victory party arrangements? It was obvious to all that she would win the 2016 presidential election and so a very elaborate ballroom—complete I believe with a glass ceiling—was arranged for the festivities. The party became a political funeral when Donald Trump won against the most wooden person in America after Pinocchio.
There is a new virus going around national governments causing them to either “recognize” a state called “Palestine” or threaten to do the same at next month’s UN confab of world leaders. While France, England, Canada and Australia have made such declarations recently, there are actually 140 countries that supposedly recognize Palestine, the Tooth Fairy, and Bigfoot. What does it mean to recognize a country that does not exist? What are the WEF grandees from the Western countries trying to accomplish with their very serious declarations? They would say that they are seeking justice, trying to right a historical wrong, help foster peace or offer some other bromide to justify their stupid and perfidious actions. As JD Vance correctly stated, the U.S. is not recognizing Palestine as it has no government.
A long time ago, a buddy and I sat watching a movie while we were both graduate students in Madison. One of the stars was an older, faded beauty queen. Throughout the movie, the two male leads kept telling one another about how beautiful she was. The fact was that her beauty had left her a decade earlier, but that did not stop the two men from talking. My roommate stopped the movie and said, “If she was as beautiful as they say, they wouldn’t need to keep telling us.” And the same is true for Palestine. Anyone moderately aware of history knows that there never was such a country. The Ottomans ran the Levant until losing World War I. The British took over as a Mandate and when the Arabs turned down a UN solution for Arabs and Jews, Israel’s War of Independence started. The results were Israel, a Jordanian West Bank and an Egyptian Gaza. Israel took the latter two in 1967. In 1993, the grotesque Palestinian Authority was born. Yasir Arafat and Abbas turned down many offers for a solution for two countries for two people. So, at no time in history was there a state of Palestine run by Palestinian Arabs. Period.

One day when I was walking around town, I came across “29th of November Street”. I thought that this was crazy: how many streets in Jerusalem are named after some random calendar date? This could get very confusing: Take July 1st and make a left on February 17th and then continue until you get to 29th November. But there was meaning to the date: on that day in 1947, the UN adopted Resolution 181 with its famous checkerboard partition plan for Jews and Arabs. The Jewish leadership accepted it immediately while the Arabs rejected the same. War came a half year later.
What the meatheads in Western capitals do not understand is that their actions actually are a tacit condemnation of the Palestinians. They realize that there is simply no way to get the Palestinians to give up violence and terror in order to get to a state in an orderly manner. They are taking a page out of Churchill’s playbook. He said about Stalin that if they treated him as a member of the club, maybe he would come to act like a member of the club. Instead, he took everything they gave and set up the Soviet Bloc behind Churchill’s “Iron Curtain” that had descended upon Eastern Europe. Declaring Palestine will not make Mahmoud Abbas hold elections, though he is in the 20th year of his four-year term. Declaring Palestine will not make the various Palestinian factions less violent. Declaring Palestine will not make the local Arabs hate the Jews any less. What the loser leaders of these countries may be hoping is that their empty declarations will buy them some good will with the foreign Muslims who have come to take over their countries and turn them into kosher Sharia states.
The other upside for Starmer, Macron, Carney and the guy who looks like a kangaroo is that it puts pressure on Israel. We recognize the state of Palestine: now Israel must leave their lands and let them run their national affairs without interference. Israel is not buying any of this malarkey as its very existence is at stake with what goes on with Gaza, the West Bank, southern Lebanon, Iran and Yemen. Bored people can entertain meaningless gestures. Those who have to run to bomb shelters cannot. Israel recently approved a new plan for fighting Hezbollah because the latter refuses to disarm and the Lebanese forces do not have the wherewithal to do their job. Most feel that the fighting with Iran is on a halftime break but will begin again at some point. If the Gaza war does not end right, the next massacre can be penciled in on your calendar. Israel is dealing with life and death. The world leaders are dealing with abstractions that have no consequences for them or their countries.
It is fair to say that Yasir Arafat was offered several opportunities to accept a state. He refused because he wanted all of the land, as those in the West so breezily say, “from the river to the sea”. It is also fair to say that Gaza was a mini-Palestine as the Jews were completely removed against their will and the Palestinians had the whole place to themselves. Imagine if they had done good with it and made a model for what to do with the West Bank. Instead, they destroyed the hot houses left for them to make money and installed Hamas as their leaders. The strip became an Islamic hotbed of intolerance and extremism and nearly two years ago no less than 6,000 Gazans came into Israel to murder, rape, torture, plunder and take hostages. Giving the Palestinians a state is like giving a child a flame thrower. Nothing good could come of it. They don’t want a state as proven by Arafat’s rejections and Gaza’s recent history. They simply don’t want the Jews to have their own state and that is the sum total of their “foreign policy” for the past 80 years. They have done nothing to build institutions or prepare housing for the supposed millions of Palestinians waiting to come home. Their only effort has been to make terror against Jews.
I would be angry at the Western morons but they and their countries are finished. Whether they will have time to grab a private plane and make it to the U.S. before the mob comes to lop off their heads is still an open question. The Westerners could still preserve their countries, but they openly state that they see their countries as evil colonialists and not the inventors of culture, medicine, science and art. Since they don’t want to win, the Muslims will win eventually. And at that point, we will know exactly where the real state of Palestine is.
