Senate Majority leader Mitch McConnell shot back against attacks made by Jon Stewart Monday, saying the former Daily Show host is just “looking for some way to take offense.”

Stewart called out McConnell on Fox News Sunday when he decried Congress’s inability to reauthorize funding for the 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund. This was after he publicly denounced Congress at a House Judiciary Committee hearing

“This has never been dealt with compassionately by Senator McConnell,” Stewart said. “He has always held out until the very last minute, and only then, under intense lobbying and public shaming, has he even deigned to move on it.”

McConnell directly responded to Stewart’s remarks in an interview with Fox & Friendssaying that “many things in Congress happen at the last minute. We’ve never failed to address this issue and we will address it again.”

McConnell emphasized that Congress will take care of the fund.

“I don’t know why he is all bent out of shape, but we will take care of the 9/11 Victims Compensation Fund,” he said.

McConnell also responded to Stewart's criticism of the absence of multiple members of Congress from the House Judiciary Committee hearing.

“Well, that frequently happens because members have a lot of things going on at the same time,” McConnell responded. “It sounds to me like he is looking for some way to take offense."

McConnell ended his interview by reassuring the public that Congress will address the situation "appropriately."

"There is no way we won’t address this problem appropriately. We have in the past, we will again in the future" he concluded.
