The Left tends to take two different positions that don't make a lot of sense. They want gun control, citing violent crime statistics to "prove" there's a need for it, but they also seem to want to put every violent criminal back out on the street as soon as possible. Is violent crime a problem or not?

What makes it worse is when this discrepancy gets illustrated perfectly, only for the leftists who run cities like Chicago to pretend it's not happening.

I bring up Chicago because, well, it's a prime example. It's long been a perfect encapsulation of the failures of gun control, but a recent arrest of two men also highlights the stupidity of the Democratic Party's approach, or lack thereof, to crime.

One of those men had been arrested for gun possession at that same spot:

One of two men charged with robbing a 17-year-old boy at a CTA Green Line station was already on pretrial release for allegedly carrying a gun at that same station, court records show.

Stephon Edwards, 19, and Xander Simmons, 20, are accused of surrounding the boy at the Green Line stop at 63rd and Ashland on February 18 and taking his chain, backpack, and other items. Both men are now detained pending trial after Judge Ankur Srivastava ordered them held on robbery charges.

According to a detention filing by Assistant State’s Attorney Farihah Syed, the victim was on the first floor of the station at around 6:52 p.m. when he saw four people walk past him. Moments later, he said, the group surrounded him while wearing face masks. He felt a hard object pressed against his back, which he believed to be a gun.

Edwards allegedly stood in front of the boy and yanked at his chain, demanding it. The victim handed it over. Another member of the group took his backpack.

...

Court records show Simmons was arrested on July 6 at the same Green Line station after police allegedly found him on the platform in possession of a firearm with an extended magazine. Prosecutors asked Judge James Murphy III to keep Simmons detained at that time, but Murphy denied the request.

So, let's get this straight here. Simmons was arrested less than a year ago for having a gun with a magazine that's illegal in Illinois, but was back on the streets fast enough that he could rob some 17-year-old kid on the same platform?

And these people think they have anything to offer on criminal justice?

Seriously?

Look, I tend to think that we should never ascribe things to malice that can be adequately ascribed to stupidity, but it's kind of hard to look at this and not think that malice is involved. Why not flood violent criminals onto the streets to try to increase the violent crime statistics, that can then be used to justify infringements on people's Second Amendment rights, and potentially offer up justifications for who knows what else that can be used to grease the palms of the Left's supporters?

Sure, it sounds like tinfoil hat territory, but on the same token, it's literally the only thing I can think of that would explain this other than just assuming leftists are so mentally disabled that their school buses required a lot less steel than what the rest of us rode.
