Saturday Night Live Lampoons Sen. Al Franken

The cast of Saturday Night Live did not spare their former co-star Sen. Al Franken (D-MN) from being the butt of the joke last night, as the “Weekend Update” lampooned the embattled Senator with several jokes poking fun of his sexual misconduct.

“Thursday is Thanksgiving, and there's so much to be thankful for this year, unless you're a human woman," co-anchor Colin Jost said as he opened the segment.

Referring to a picture of Al Franken groping a sleeping Leeann Tweeden, the host said:

"Senator Al Franken is being accused of sexual misconduct on a 2006 U.S.O. Tour by Leann Tweeden, who posted this photo of Franken apparently groping her breasts while she was asleep. Now, I know this photo looks bad, but remember it also is bad."

Adding,

"Sure, this was taken before Franken ran for public office, but it was also taken after he was a sophomore in high school," Jost said. "It's pretty hard to be like , 'Oh Come on, he didn't know better  He was only 55."

This comes just a week after SNL portrayed Democratic leadership as old, out of touch, and riding high on a wave of undeserved euphoric adulation and self-praise after recent gubernatorial and state level victories.

SNL characters portrayed Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY), Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), former vice presidential candidate Sen. Tim Kaine (D-VA), as well as former Vice President Joe Biden, with Larry David bringing back out his impression of Sen. Bernie Sanders (D-VT). Even "team player" Donna Brazile played a role in the lampoon.

While last week SNL was attacking Democrats for their social ineptitude, it is interesting that SNL would attack a former cast mate and a liberal icon. The segment also takes on President Donald J. Trump, Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore, and Attorney General Jeff Sessions.
