SNL Surprisingly Pokes Fun at Democratic Leadership

Saturday Night Live, such as most shows in the entertainment industry, is known for its liberal slant. Often times, it neglects to lambast Democrats and left leaning public figures opting instead of clichéd and trivial stereotypes about conservatives or Republican politicians. Consider its tired rift on President Donald J. Trump and aid Kellyanne Conway.

But last night, the SNL cast took shots at numerous Democratic leadership. The comedy show accurately characterized the group as old, out of touch, and riding high on a wave of undeserved euphoric adulation and self-praise after recent gubernatorial and state level victories.

SNL characters portrayed Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY), Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), former vice presidential candidate Sen. Tim Kaine (D-VA), as well as former Vice President Joe Biden, with Larry David bringing back out his impression of Sen. Bernie Sanders (D-VT). Even "team player" Donna Brazile played a role in the lampoon.

With lines such as ‘You'll love our fresh new ideas delivered by fresh new faces like me, Nancy Pelosi.' ‘And me, Dianne Feinstein,’  ‘And me, Chuck Schumer' SNL is pointing out a very real problem the Democrats have. Their leadership is all well above the age of 60 with outdated ideas and poor marketing schemes that fails to energize their base nor capture the middle.

While the election victories in Virginia and New Jersey this past Tuesday show there is potential for Democrats in 2018 and beyond, it would be very unwise for Democratic leaders to get complacent. They say there's a always a little bit of truth behind each joke, and for Democrats they better hope that's not the case.

The video can be seen below and is fairly humorous.
