A Democrat and Independent lawmaker says they don’t know where their birth certificates are, and that’s why the SAVE Act, which aims to secure elections, shouldn’t become law.

On Feb. 11, the U.S. House passed the SAVE Act. It aims to require voters to provide documentary proof of U.S. citizenship when registering to vote in federal elections.

California Gavin Newsom said that he doesn’t know where his birth certificate is.

Neither does Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-VT.

Most Democrats oppose the SAVE Act. They claim that the proposed law would disenfranchise minorities and women who change their names after getting married. But in reality, those people just have to get that information from the government.

The SAVE Act aims to stop illegal immigrants from voting in federal elections. Democrats say that doesn't happen, but it happened multiple times in Michigan and elsewhere.

This week, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani sought residents to help shovel snow for an upcoming storm. But he required multiple forms of ID to shovel snow — something that Democrats have decried as racist.
