Federal officials arrested a police officer from a Chicago suburb for immigration crimes on Oct. 15.
The city of Hanover Park apparently didn't verify that Radule Bojovic was a U.S. citizen. Court documents say that he overstayed a B-2 visitor visa. He was required to leave the country by March 31, 2015.
He illegally overstayed his visa by more than 10 years, but he wanted to enforce local and state law. Federal law bans illegal immigrants from owning or possessing firearms.
While conducting targeted enforcement operations in Rolling Meadows on Oct. 15, ICE Chicago arrested an illegal alien from Montenegro who was recently sworn in as a police officer in the Chicago suburb of Hanover Park.

“Illegal aliens are prohibited from owning or possessing firearms — full stop,” said ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations Chicago Field Office Director Sam Olson. “This is the second known instance in recent months of a local police department hiring an illegal alien and unlawfully issuing him a firearm while on duty in violation of federal law. It is alarming how local jurisdictions continue to disregard federal law to the detriment of their communities.”
Upon arrest, Bojovic provided his employee identification card, confirming he is a police officer with the Hanover Park Police Department. Bojovic also admitted that he had no weapons on his person because he's only authorized to carry his firearm while on duty.
As an alien illegally present in the United States, ICE officers immediately placed Bojovic under arrest.
The police officer was sworn in about two months ago, according to a post on Facebook.
Hanover Park Police Department records confirm, Radule Bojovic was approved by the Pension Fund Board of Trustees in January 2025 and was eligible to receive a starting salary of $78,955.70. Other records indicate his 2025 earnings cost taxpayers $205,707 including $9,276 for FICA/Medicare taxes.
Chicago is a sanctuary city, meaning it ignored federal immigration law. Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker has opposed Operation Midway and claims that there is no need for troops and federal agents to patrol Chicago.
The Department of Homeland Security slammed the Illinois for ignoring immigration law.
“Governor J.B. Pritzker doesn’t just allow violent illegal aliens to terrorize Illinois’s communities, he allows illegal aliens to work as sworn police officers," said Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin. "Radule Bojovic violated our nation’s laws and was living ILLEGALLY in the United States for 10 years—what kind of police department gives criminal illegal aliens badges and guns? It's a felony for aliens to even possess a firearm. A so-called law enforcement officer who is actively breaking the law. Under President Trump and Secretary Noem ICE is restoring law and order. Criminal illegal aliens have NO PLACE in our communities, especially on our police forces.”
On September 8, the Department of Homeland Security started Operation Midway Blitz in honor of Katie Abraham who was killed in a drunk driving hit-and-run car wreck caused by criminal illegal alien Julio Cucul-Bol in Illinois. The operation targets criminal illegal aliens who flocked to Chicago and Illinois seeking protection under the sanctuary policies of Pritzker.
