Gun Owners Just as Likely to Have Young Children in Home

Gun owners in the United States are just as likely to have children under the age of 18 residing in their home as are their unarmed counterparts, a recent Pew Research Center survey showed.

Overall, about a third of all Americans with children under 18 at home have a gun in their household, including 34% of families with children younger than 12. That’s nearly identical to the share of childless adults or those with older children who have a firearm at home.

In February, ABC aired a “Young Guns” special with the goal to uncover “whether people should or should not own guns.” My co-worker Cortney, wrote extensively about their agenda to convey guns as dangerous and life threatening to children when owned in the home.

This poll, however, is good news for child safety. When it comes to protecting your family in an emergency, perhaps for those times when the police cannot respond quickly enough, there is no sounder assurance than owning a gun.
