A group of 23 House Republicans, led by Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX), is calling for a full congressional investigation into the funding and coordination behind what they describe as the radical left’s assault on American values, law and order, and free speech—catalyzed by the assassination of conservative leader Charlie Kirk.

In a letter sent Thursday to Speaker Mike Johnson, Oversight Chair James Comer, and Judiciary Chair Jim Jordan, the lawmakers urged the formation of a select committee to uncover who is financing and enabling political violence in the United States. They made clear this isn’t just about one incident—it’s about a pattern.

The lawmakers specifically named the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), accusing the organization of placing ideological targets on conservative individuals and groups.

“We have seen targets placed on the Family Research Council and Charlie Kirk by the SPLC,” the letter states, “only to witness shootings toward each, including the tragic assassination of Charlie just this week, after being placed on the SPLC’s notorious ‘Hate Map’ three months ago.”

The SPLC, which claims to monitor extremism, has long faced criticism for labeling mainstream conservative organizations as “hate groups.” Its list has been cited in multiple violent incidents over the years.

But the members’ concerns go beyond the SPLC. The letter points to figures like George Soros and organizations like the Wren Collective, which they say have worked to install radical prosecutors and judges who prioritize politics over public safety. The result, they argue, has been an explosion of violent crime—pointing to specific tragedies, including the recent murder of a Ukrainian refugee by a repeat offender and the paralyzing of a Marine veteran in Texas by a released felon.

The lawmakers are demanding answers on how taxpayer funds, foreign influence, and politically motivated NGOs are undermining the rule of law and contributing to violence against Americans, including high-profile conservatives like Kirk.

Their push echoes President Donald Trump’s recent promise from the Oval Office to track down not only the perpetrator of Kirk’s assassination, but “each and every one of those who contributed to this atrocity”—including the networks that support and fund such violence.

In the letter, the members warn: “We can no longer pretend to be bound together by shared ideals when a well-funded, vitriolic cadre of our fellow Americans and foreign interests are at war with the very values of faith in God, fidelity to our Constitution, and respect for the principles of liberty and Western Civilization.”

They also point the finger at the Biden administration’s open-border policies, linking taxpayer funds given to the U.N.-affiliated International Organization for Migration to a wave of criminal activity committed by illegal migrants.

The message from House Republicans is simple: they’ve had enough.

“We must follow the money,” the letter concludes, “to identify the perpetrators of the coordinated anti-American assaults being carried out against us and take all steps under the law necessary to stop them.”
