Vice President J.D. Vance was reportedly the guy pulling the strings to pardon individuals involved in the January 6 Capitol riots, earning him significant praise for his role in championing their release. Vance argued that many of those arrested in connection with the riot were political prisoners, unfairly targeted by the Biden federal government for exercising their First Amendment rights. Vance's efforts focused on securing justice for those he believed were caught up in an overreach by the federal justice system, with a focus on promoting a broader narrative of opposing government overreach and defending constitutional freedoms. His advocacy for pardons echoed those of President Donald Trump's own push for the prisoner’s release.

According to a Breitbart report, a close source said that Vance was “behind the scenes pushing as hard as possible for broad pardons and commutations of the J6 hostages.”

Vance has previously said that the J6 prisoners should not be held to the severe consequences they faced and considered criminals, claiming the treatment of those involved in the riot was politically motivated. He also pointed to the double standard in handling some left-wing protests. The vice president has maintained his support for the peaceful right to protest, asserting that those who were arrested for nonviolent actions should be granted clemency. Vance emphasized that the punishment should fit the crime, especially for political figures or citizens who were caught in a broader partisan struggle.

Vance’s press secretary, Taylor Van Kirk, issued a statement affirming his full support for Trump regarding the pardons. He called on the mainstream media to shift its focus to the controversial pardons granted by former President Joe Biden to his family members during his final hours in office rather than continuing to scrutinize the January 6 pardons.

“As Vice President Vance said on Fox News Sunday, pardoning the January 6 protestors would be handled on a case by case basis, which of course meant there was always going to be a large degree of gray area,” Kirk said. “Due to the corrupt process of these prosecutions, President Trump rightly decided to grant a broad pardon to all wrongfully convicted January 6 protestors. Despite the mainstream media’s obsession with January 6, the outgoing administration’s application of presidential pardons for members of the Biden family are far more deserving of additional media scrutiny.”

However, in his interview, Vance admitted that there was a “gray area” but that he was committed to equal legal administration. Nonetheless, the vice president remained firm that he was a critical voice in assisting Trump with the pardons.
