A new amendment through political circles could give President Donald Trump an unexpected path to a third term in the White House. While the Constitution currently restricts any president to serve more than two terms, the proposed amendment seeks to rewrite those boundaries, potentially allowing Trump, or any future president, to be elected to office for a third time.
Rep. Andy Ogles (R-TN) proposed legislation allowing Trump to stay in office past 2028 so that the United States could “sustain the bold leadership our nation so desperately needs.”
Ogles amendment states:
No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than three times, nor be elected to any additional term after being elected to two consecutive terms, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice.
The amendment proposes that a two-term president could serve a third term only if their terms were not consecutive. Before Trump’s 2016 win, only former President Grover Cleveland had the distinction of serving two non-consecutive terms.
In a statement, Ogles said that Trump has proven he is the only person who can tackle the chaos the nation has endured the past four years before Trump’s 2016 win. He praised the president for being the only figure in modern history capable of reversing “America’s decay and restoring America to greatness.” The Republican argued that four years in office is simply not enough time to make a concrete change that will last generations.

Trump has previously joked about running for president a third time, with one notable Truth Social post showing several campaign signs that read, “Trump 2024, Trump 2028, Trump 2032,” and so on. However, when asked about seriously considering making a third term a reality, the president said, “I suspect I won’t be running again unless you do something…Unless you say, ‘He’s so good, we have to just figure it out.’”
Of course, the liberal media’s heads blew off when they heard, sending Democrats into a frenzy.
In response, Republicans threw water on their meltdowns and insisted that it “clearly was a joke.”
“That was a joke. It was clearly a joke,” Rep. Tim Burchett (R-OK) said. “I leaned over to somebody beside me, [Rep] Andy Biggs (R-AZ), and I said, that’ll be the headlines tomorrow, ‘Trump trying to thwart the Constitution,’ which — there’s nothing further from the truth.”
