January 20, 2024, the day Donald Trump took office for the second day, will go down in history as one of the best days in America. However, not every person was celebrating. Left-wing media outlets were quick to express dissatisfaction and skepticism over the 47th president. The coverage was dominated by criticism and hate as pundits on the left questioned the legitimacy of Trump’s victory and peddled old allegations that he is a threat to democracy. For many in the liberal press, the day marked the beginning of a new era of political upheaval, one they feared would undermine the so-called progress made under former President Joe Biden.
MSNBC host Joy Reid struggled to watch the inauguration of Trump, describing it as a “takeover of the United States by a base mentality of greed and corruption.”
“The promise of the incoming administration is to wipe away the civic memory of Washington, to get rid of and to fire all of the people who normally transition as civil servants from one administration to the next,” she said. “The promises on the table are 200 some odd executive actions, an attempt to get rid of birthright citizenship, an attempt to do mass deportation.”
Reid claimed that the “cruelty is the point of this coming administration.”
Meanwhile, CNN’s Van Jones described him as “miserable,” “sad,” and “frustrated.”

Jones said he has little hope for the future of the country. He also insinuated that Democrats were watching Inauguration Day are “probably with some substances, because he’s going to unleash this blitzkrieg of attacks on everything we care about.”
However, the network's conservative commentator, Scott Jennings, rightfully disagreed, saying that Trump would cut taxes, restore confidence in America, and restore faith in the nation on the world stage.
“Here’s what he’s going to do, I think, I don’t think it’s going to be a sweeping speech, I don’t think it’s going to be full of flowery language, I think it’s going to be very workmanlike, and I think the theme of the speech is going to be restoring confidence in America. And that means two things, I think, to the people that voted for Trump, number one, restoring confidence that the government is actually listening to and responsive to the problems of the American people, and number two, restoring confidence in America on the world stage,” Jennings said.
Hollywood is also up in arms over Trump’s return to the White House.
Disney’s Star Wars star Mark Hamill said he was embarking on a “five-day blackout,” which includes “no TV, no Internet, no Social Media, no nothing.” He said a “Symbolic protest is better than none at all.”
