No Lizzo, a Kamala Win Would Not Be Good for the Country

Multi-millionaire and evidently “oppressed” Hollywood singer’s comments are coming back to haunt her after saying a Vice President Kamala Harris win would make the whole country be like Detroit. And yes, she said that as a good thing.

For someone stumping for a presidential candidate, it would be appropriate not to wish for the U.S. to look exactly like a state that has become so dangerous residents are fleeing because of its leadership that is the same party affiliation she is campaigning for.

“I’m so happy to be back in Detroit,” Lizzo said during a Michigan rally. “You know, all the best things were made in Detroit, Coney Dogs, Faygo, and Lizzo. I’m so proud to be from this city. You know, they say if Kamala wins, then the whole country will be like Detroit. Proud like Detroit, resilient like Detroit. We’re talking about the same Detroit that innovated the auto industry and the music industry, so put some respect on Detroit’s name.”

For starters, let’s look at crime rates in one of the most dangerous cities in the country.

The city’s crime rates are higher than the national average, particularly with violent crimes such as homicide, assault, and robbery. Property crimes such as burglary and theft are also above national averages. Detroit’s property crime rate exceeds 3,000 per 100,000 residents. In comparison, the national average is roughly 2,000 per 100,000. Detroit also has a historically high rate of violent crime, which includes murder and rape.

On the other hand, former President Donald Trump has promised to bring a "real comeback" for Detroit.

Similar to Lizzo's remarks but also very different, Trump warned that if Harris is elected, the whole country will look like Detroit.

The 45th president said that reckless economic policies had "decimated" the city “as if by a foreign army.” He vowed residents would see a "stunning rebirth" if he secured a second term in the White House.
