Let's Check in on How the DNC Vice Chairs Are Doing

AP Photo/Manuel Balce Ceneta

Almost a week ago, David Hogg was selected as one of the DNC's new vice chairs, a young, white man in a party that focuses on "racism and misogyny," including at the DNC forum last Friday hosted by MSNBC. Another white man, Ken Martin from Minnesota's Democratic–Farmer–Labor (DFL) party, was selected as the chairman. Already during his time as vice chair, Hogg has taken steps, including through social media posts, to remind us why it is that the Democratic Party is on quite a losing streak.

One of Hogg's posts that is getting plenty of attention, to the tune of 4,000-plus replies since Thursday night, is his desire to see Elon Musk replaced with former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg. Hogg posting a picture of Buttigieg and going after Musk was his way of politicizing a tragedy that had nothing to do with either man, a Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) train incident.

Putting Buttigieg's qualifications – or lack thereof – aside, comparing him to Musk is a rather peculiar choice. Musk does not serve as Buttigieg's replacement. Rather, that would be Sean Duffy, who was confirmed by the Senate in a 77-22 vote last week. It's quite possible he wasn't unanimously confirmed only because Democrats threw a temper tantrum over a memo from the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), an unrelated department.

In addition to his losing tactics, it looks like Hogg also has in common with his fellow Democrats tying unrelated people and issues together. It's true that Musk has been something of a boogeyman to the left, but it would help if their complaints were actually relevant and based in reality.

Further, as many of the replies pointed out, SEPTA has to do with Pennsylvania, not the federal government.

Although his post received plenty of attention, as Doug P. at our sister site Twitchy also covered, this isn't the most recent post that Hogg put out there. Far from it. He's not just an internet activist, but a DNC vice chair, after all! He and fellow vice chair, State Rep. Malcolm Kenyatta of Pennsylvania, also shared a post on Thursday night regarding what Democrats "accomplished" did that day.

The very first item actually bragged about a losing issue, specifically how "Senate Democrats held the floor for 30 hours straight speaking out against Trump's OMB nominee Russ Vought." So? Vought was still confirmed, 53-47. Further, he's no longer just the nominee, but rather the OMB director, just as he was for the final few months of Trump's first term.

Hogg also highlighted how "House Democrats introduced the Taxpayer Data Protection Act to permanently protect the American people's data from Elon Musk." Oh, so now Democrats care? Given the unhinged reactions from Democratic members of Congress, they seem to be worried about themselves as Musk and the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) work for government accountability and weeding out corruption.

Still, another point speaks to how "Nearly 100 House Democrats sent a letter to the acting Education secretary demanding transparency on Trump's efforts to dismantle the Department of Education." Ooh, a "letter" from Democrats who are "demanding" something. That's actually not all the action that Democrats have taken, though, as they rudely tried to force their way into the actual department building, with Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) leading the charge. She was also seen harassing an employee standing guard at the entrance.

The Department of Education was created during the Carter administration, and education standards have gone down since the federal government took over education. President Donald Trump has for months been making clear that he intends to give that power back to the states.

In response, Democrats have taken to lamenting what it would mean for public schools, while also viciously attacking school choice, which would actually help students and is an issue supported by a majority of Americans, with the 2024 numbers even higher than they were in 2020. Hogg showcased comments from a Texas Democratic politician going after the popular idea.

And still another bullet point brags about how Democrats "Organized to successfully delay the vote to advance Kash Patel's nomination." Imagine bragging about such action.

Republicans are in the majority, and it looks like Patel has the votes to get confirmed. They're delaying the inevitable, at a time when competent leadership is needed at the FBI.

The DNC's own website, under the "Who We Are" website declares, "The Democratic National Committee is committed to electing Democrats everywhere – from the school board to the Oval Office. We’re mobilizing voters across the country." With such losing takes and priorities, it's no wonder that last week's poll from Quinnipiac University showed Democrats with a 57-31 percent unfavorable rating among Americans, and it certainly doesn't bring good news for 2026 or even 2028.

Democrats still look to be in disarray over the DNC elections from last weekend. On Wednesday, MSNBC published an opinion piece by a Democratic political strategist, Chai Komanduri. "Americans said they want new voices. Democrats aren’t listening," read the headline. An alternate headline also mentioned that "The DNC leadership election results are a bad sign for Democrats."
