A large group of House Democrats prioritized woke culture over national security on Thursday during debate over a bill to protect the rights of Transportation Safety Administration employees. The bill’s intent is to level the playing field between TSA workers and other federal government employees.

One-hundred and seventy-four House Democrats voted against an amendment to the bill that will ensure that anyone found guilty of sexual misconduct, violent crime or suspected terrorism would not be hired by TSA, the Washington Free Beacon originally reported. The amendment was put forth by Democratic Congresswoman Lauren Underwood (D-IL) and supported by House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA).  The amendment passed, with 42 House Democrats joining the GOP minority.

Leading the opposition to the amendment, which largely serves public safety, was the progressive “squad” including Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), Ilhan Omar (D-MN), Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) and Ayanna Pressley (D-MA); Speaker Pelosi elected not to vote on the amendment in question. Rep. Debbie Lesko (R-AZ) cited proven cases of sexual misconduct by TSA employees, and argued that Rep. Underwood’s amendment will keep predators off of federal payrolls, per Free Beacon:

“We have two options today: Adopt the Underwood amendment and keep sexual predators off of the federal payroll, or reject it and reward sexual predators with a paycheck from the taxpayer," Rep. Lesko said.

Voting against a measure that would protect Americans from sexual predators is a new low for the squad. The Rights for Transportation Security Officers Act passed the House 227-171, and heads to Leader McConnell next.
