When I wrote earlier about the Supreme Court ruling 8-1 in favor of a Colorado therapist who challenged the state's ban on conversion therapy, I knew exactly how the Democrats would respond, and they did not disappoint.
Before I dive into that, though, it's worth noting that the Supreme Court did not find Colorado's ban unconstitutional outright. The majority opinion did, however, indicate that Colorado's ban on talk conversion therapy likely violates free speech. That lends weight to the argument that it is unconstitutional, and the Supreme Court advised lower courts to apply strict scrutiny to that ban.
Despite this nuance, Democrats are not happy at all. Here are just a few samples of their displeasure:
supreme court declares warfare on queer kids is okay as long as you don't hit them

it's clear that queer rights in this country can only be secured by a vigorous strengthening of children's rights and a total evisceration of parental authority https://t.co/bm5355beqE

If he means Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson, the lone dissent, that's hilarious for many reasons, namely that she sees her role on the Supreme Court as a platform to speak her mind. And speak it she does, even if she contradicts herself.
But I digress.

There are two larger reactions to this ruling that are as contradictory as they are eye-opening. First, we'll start with Charles Clymer, who now goes by Charlotte.
"Conversion therapy" doesn't work. It never has and never will. All it does is teach a young person to feel shame for who they are and that repression later manifests into unhealthy behavior. Today's Supreme Court ruling will result in a generation of shame and subsequent harm.

And the other from Kentucky Governor and probably 2028 Democratic Presidential candidate Andy Beshear.

I don't know if conversion talk therapy does or does not work. I do know that there are individuals who, because of their religious beliefs, wish to address their same-sex attraction. Whether or not that's a good idea is not up to me. But the irony of this coming from an openly "transgender" person is so thick you could cut it with a knife.
The Democrats hate conversion therapy. Except when they don't. And their support of "gender-affirming care" is the most radical, violent, and dangerous form of conversion therapy imaginable. The majority of "trans" kids are actually gender non-conforming gays and lesbians, many of them have mental health issues, a history of abuse, or neurodivergent behaviors.
I think of Jonni Skinner, the young man who was an effeminate gay boy. Instead of being affirmed in his gender, his sexual orientation, and his non-conforming behaviors, Skinner was told he was born with a "girl brain" and pushed to transition. His mother, who tried to do what any good parent would and ask questions, was told Skinner would commit suicide or be taken from her custody if she didn't keep her mouth shut. The physician who treated Skinner, Dr. Schumer, eventually blamed Skinner for the medical problems he was experiencing as part of his transition, including breast pain and fluid leakage, and Dr. Schumer eventually stopped returning Skinner's phone calls.
Detransitioner Chloe Cole, who has lent her name to a bill sponsored by Rep. Bob Onder, that would protect children from "gender-affirming care," says she never would have taken puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, or undergone a double mastectomy had she known the lifelong consequences. Fox Varian, another detransitioner who also had a mastectomy at 16, recently won a $2 million malpractice lawsuit.
Here is where I have to be bluntly honest and, frankly, graphic. People need to understand what "gender-affirming care" does to children, and that cannot be varnished or masked by polite language. Boys given puberty blockers will never develop mature penises, and they will never be able to father children or achieve orgasm. If they have surgery, their neo-vagina (often constructed from parts of a colon) will always need dilation, will often smell, and will be painful. They're at risk for infection and the development of fistulas, often between the neo-vagina and colon, meaning stool will leak uncontrollably. Women who "become" men will have scarring on their forearms where doctors remove skin to construct a penis, which may or may not develop sensation as it heals from surgery. They will never be able to get pregnant and will never be able to breastfeed. Both boys and girls are at risk of mental health issues from the cross-sex hormones, cancer, and diseases like osteoporosis.
Oh, and transitioning kids doesn't reduce suicidality. In fact, post-op trans individuals are more likely to commit suicide. Given the physical and mental complications that come from such "care," it's not a surprise.
As I said, I don't know if conversion talk therapy does or does not work, and I have misgivings about more invasive conversion therapy. But what I do know is this: children who undergo the conversion therapy Democrats hate and ban do not face such horrific mutilation and complications. Despite this reality, they continue to embrace the "gender-affirming care" that has done far more harm to children than conversion therapy ever could.
Make it make sense.
