Being a mother changes the way you see the world. When I was a teenager, I began reading the "Harry Potter" books and enjoyed them from the perspective of a kid who would love to be whisked away to a mysterious, magical school. But by the time the seventh and final book came out, I was a new mom, and I looked at the story not from the perspective of the titular character and his friends, but from Lily Potter, Harry's mom. She laid down her life for her son and I got teary-eyed reading the conclusion of the story with my own son napping nearby.
So today, my heart hurts for the parents of Sheridan Gorman, the 18-year-old Loyola University student who was shot and killed by Jose Medina-Medina, an illegal immigrant from Venezuela, over the weekend.
Gorman, like so many other women before her, is dead for one reason and one reason only: because Democratic politicians have put illegal aliens like Medina-Medina ahead of the safety of Americans. The reasons for this are myriad, of course.
Democrats hate America and wish to destroy it. They also want to permanently cement their political power by granting amnesty to millions of illegals who will then turn out in droves to vote for them. Democrats also hold Americans like me, Gorman, Laken Riley, Rachel Morin, and others in contempt. They genuinely believe we're "privileged" because of the color of our skin, and that we must be knocked down a peg or two in the name of "equity."
When confronted with the deadly realities of their policies, Democrats do what they do best: blame anyone and anything but themselves. We saw that earlier, when Democratic activist and former Chuck Schumer aide Chris Hahn told NewNation's Katie Pavlich the problem isn't Democratic immigration policy, but Donald Trump and guns. We also saw it when a 2024 video of Senator Chris Murphy telling MSNBC that Democrats care the most about illegal immigrants resurfaced on X.
Murphy even used the phrase "undocumented Americans," a group of people that does not exist save in the mind of Democrats.
Democrats do not care. They do not care about Sheridan Gorman. They do not care about any of us. They made that explicitly clear at the State of the Union address, where they refused to stand in support of the one job they're supposed to be doing: protecting Americans.
So I'm not surprised that Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson refuses to apologize to the family of Sheridan Gorman for supporting the policies that led to her death.

Just yesterday, Johnson posted on X that he was working to keep parts of Chicago "ICE-free zones" to stand in "solidarity" with monsters like Medina-Medina.

Governor J.B. Pritzker took days to post anything about Gorman, and when he did he failed to mention exactly why she's dead.

So, of course they're not sorry. Why would they be, when this is exactly what they want?
Remember, Democrats like Brandon Johnson believe that jailing criminals is "unholy," and that deporting illegal immigrants is an affront to human rights. The government is partially shut down right now because Democrats are trying to implement a back-door repeal of our immigration laws.
That's exactly what the calls to abolish ICE are, by the way. Without ICE and Border Patrol to enforce our immigration laws, those laws are essentially rendered null and void. Democrats, as conniving as they are, know that saying they want to repeal our immigration laws is electoral suicide. Yet when you remove any and all enforcement mechanisms, the laws can remain on the books as stale relics of a time when we had borders and a sovereign nation.
Much in the same way they figured out how to circumvent the First Amendment by getting willing corporations to silence their political opponents and censor everyday Americans, Democrats have figured out a workaround for finally achieving their goal of open borders and the collapse of America. Because a nation without borders ceases to be a nation, and that's what the Democrats want.
Exactly a month ago, President Trump hosted a remembrance ceremony for Angel Families who lost loved ones thanks to the Democratic Party's immigration policies. Sheridan Gorman's mother, Jessica, never imagined then that she would be joining that sad, solemn club.
According to The New York Post, Jessica Gorman said she is "shattered" but that she vows to get justice for her daughter. As a mom, my heart hurts for her. No parent should have to bury a child, and especially not when your child's death was due to the willful negligence of the Democrats, in pursuit of their political agenda.
Gorman, her family, and the countless others impacted by illegal immigration deserve swift justice.
That won't happen if Democrats win in November, of course. They'll never make sure her killer is brought to justice because they can't even bring themselves to say they're sorry that Sheridan Gorman is dead.
