Zohran Mamdani, the Democratic Socialist who won New York City’s Democratic mayoral primary last week, laughed off criticism from President Trump that he’s a communist, telling NBC’s Kristen Welker it’s a distraction from what he’s fighting for—“working people.” But his public statements and policy positions speak for themselves, and if he gets into office, Trump warned him what would happen if he doesn’t “behave” himself.
“I think it’s very bad for New York,” Trump told Fox News’ Maria Bartiromo. “I don’t know that he’s gonna get in. It’s inconceivable … but he’s a Communist, and he’s pure Communist. I think he admits it. I can’t imagine it, but let’s say this: If he does get in, I’m gonna be president, then he’s going to have to do the right thing, but they’re not getting any money. He’s got to do to the right thing.”
When Bartiromo pointed to Mamdani’s position on Trump’s immigration agenda, including vowing to end cooperation with ICE at the local level, and his previous comments saying he’d have Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu arrested if he came to the Big Apple.
“He’s a radical left lunatic,” Trump commented, before issuing a warning to all the candidates for NYC mayor.
“I can tell you this, whoever’s mayor of New York is going to have to behave themselves, or the federal government is coming down very tough on them financially," he said.
