A WNBA Star's Tweet Comes Back to Haunt Her

AP Photo/Julio Cortez

The 2025 WNBA season is notable this year. It’s not about the quality of the game or the play, however. Someone is throwing adult toys onto the court during games. The green appendages have been hurled multiple times, with a third incident happening last night between the Indiana Fever and the Los Angeles Sparks. There were casualties this time.

Obviously, no one was killed, but Sophie Cunningham, who tweeted that everyone should stop throwing these toys during games because someone might get hurt, was hit by the object. There would have been a fourth, but that one hit a kid.

The reactions have been hilarious:

"This did NOT age well," tweeted Cunningham.

The league was warned that those caught doing this would be ejected from the venue and banned from attending games for a year. One man, identified as Delbert Carver, 23, was arrested for throwing that object onto the court. He’s facing criminal charges (via ESPN):

Police in College Park, Georgia, told ESPN they arrested Delbert Carver on Saturday after he allegedly threw a sex toy onto the court during last Tuesday's Golden State Valkyries-Atlanta Dream game at Gateway Center Arena.

Carver, 23, faces counts of disorderly conduct, public indecency/indecent exposure and criminal trespass, according to law enforcement records. Records show he was booked into Clayton County Jail at 7:42 p.m. He was released late Sunday on an undisclosed bond.

Carver's next potential court date has not been set, and the Clayton County court system website lists the case's status as "pending."

Carver was allegedly at the game with friends, according to the police affidavit, when the sex toy was thrown on to the court.

In the affidavit, Carver allegedly told police "this was supposed to be a joke and this joke [was] supposed to go viral."

Oh, it has, Mr. Carver.
