Smackdown: Dr. Ben Carson Takes Ilhan Omar To The Woodshed After She Took A Swing At Him

Things got very testy between Housing and Urban Development Secretary Dr. Ben Carson and House Democrats. Carson received some ridicule in the media for mistaking a housing term for an Oreo cookie. Cortney has more:

Chairwoman Maxine Waters (D-CA) set the tone by accusing Carson of leading an agency that is "actively causing harm," sentiments that were shared by other Democrats on the panel.

"It pains me that your gifted hands are doing the bidding and carrying the water of what I believe to be one of the most morally bankrupt president's history," Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-IL) told the witness. "Increasing rents, evicting families."

[…]

Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY) called the policy "despicable" and wondered how members of HUD could live with themselves knowing they were displacing thousands of families and leaving 55,000 children on the street.

Carson defended the policy by pointing out how it comes with a six-month deferral period, which can be renewed twice.

Carson, who has been known to act a bit off in his public appearances, took the attacks hurled at him from Democrats, defended the policies of the Trump administration, and also showed that he’s just as vicious in delivering those blows. Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) decided to take a shot at him, tweeting, “Not sure he was fully awake, maybe he meant to reclaim his time back to sleep.”

Carson was not going to let this go unanswered.

“Since you brought it up,” he replied in a tweet of his own. “I know what it's like to actually be sleepy, especially after 18-hour surgeries and operating on babies in the womb. I hope Rep. Ilhan Omar knows I care about all people, even those she doesn't recognize as having a right to life.”

Talk about being taken to the woodshed. Omar is not alone. Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX) torched Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) after the latter said, “In 2018, right-wing extremists were behind almost ALL US domestic terrorist killings. Why don’t you go do something about that?” Crenshaw is a war hero, losing an eye when an IED exploded while serving as a U.S. Navy SEAL in Afghanistan back in 2012. AOC was defending Omar who was being rightfully bashed for downplaying the 9/11 attacks as an event where “some people did something.”
