Oh, So That's Why The NAACP Returned The Donation It Received From Facebook

Has there been a good day for Facebook on the public relations front since they were yanked up on the Hill to answer questions about ads during the 2016 election? Not really, especially with the latest development that they gave private messages to certain tech companies. Granted, the Left’s assertion that the Russian ad buys, which amounted to around $100,000, tilted the election and caused irreparable damage to American government is also ludicrous. Still, the latter note is the reason why the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People is returning a donation to the social media giant and initiated a 24-hour boycott of the site. They’re appalled at how Facebook was used to manipulate black voters during the election (via Mercury News):

Millions of people spend hours a day on Facebook. And on Tuesday, the NAACP wanted all of them to log off from the social networking platform for the day.

The organization took to its website and Twitter page to call for a one-day boycott of not just Facebook, but also Instagram and the WhatsApp messaging platform, after report from a Senate committee on Monday said that Russia’s Internet Research Agency (IRA) used the social media outlets to manipulate and influence black voters in the 2016 U.S. presidential election.

The NAACP said that in addition to calling for a daylong boycott of Facebook and its affiliates, it would return a donation for an undisclosed amount that it received from Facebook. In a statement, the NAACP said it was “reprehensible” how Facebook was used “for propaganda promoting disingenuous portrayals of the African American community

It would seem the list of folks not angered, annoyed, or disheartened by Facebook grows shorter by the day—and that’s not even touching on the accusations of political bias that remains a contentious issue with conservatives.
