Jimmy Kimmel lost his show this week over a monologue on Monday’s broadcast where he ran with a thoroughly debunked narrative about Charlie Kirk’s suspected assassin, telling his audience “the MAGA gang (is) desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it.” As many have pointed out, this is not a free speech issue, it’s about accountability.
It’s stunning, then, that a Democratic lawmaker has not taken down this tweet running with the same lie about suspect Tyler Robinson, who is accused of assassinating Kirk. While the argument that Robinson was a supporter yet gunned him down anyway didn’t make much sense to begin with, it was shattered once authorities confirmed he was a devoted leftist.
"Now that the Charlie Kirk assassin has been identified as MAGA, I'm sure Donald Trump, Elon Musk and all the insane GOP politicians who called for retribution against the 'RADICAL LEFT' will now shift their focus to stopping the toxic violence of the RADICAL RIGHT," he tweeted on Sept. 12.
He then ran away from questions about the tweet, bolting "like a coward," NRCC Spokesman Christian Martinez said.
Rep. David Min just refused to apologize for lying about how Charlie Kirk's assassin was "identified as MAGA."pic.twitter.com/JZESwg4Bj0 https://t.co/UPuI9r0hK1
