Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) made history in the Senate this week with a speech that lasted 25 hours and 5 minutes, surpassing a previous record set 68 years ago by Sen. Strom Thurmond of South Carolina. Unlike Thurmond, however, Booker wasn’t filibustering anything. He was merely lashing out at President Trump’s agenda—an agenda backed by the American people.
RealClearPolitics’ co-founder Tom Bevan noted the speech was “almost a perfect encapsulation of the fighting spirit that Democrats are after,” but against what is not so clear.
"There’s no cause, there’s no specific policy. It’s just this nebulous 'everything Trump sucks.' It’s kind of a perfect example of the Democrats," he said. "They have this urge to stand up to Trump, but they don’t really have a plan, and it’s not very focused. It’s just a list of complaints."
The speech will be forgotten soon enough and won’t change the fact that the Democratic Party is in the worst shape it’s been in 50 years, as Matt pointed out recently. And plenty of others agree.

"It WON'T have a tangible impact on business in Washington!"
What was the point?! pic.twitter.com/mT2Z1LNURm
Spending over 20 hours talking about orange man bad and thinking you're doing something heroic pretty much sums up the current state of the Democrat Party. They have nothing to offer America other than pointless grandstanding and a lot of fake anger. https://t.co/xVsDb8eLzL

Cory Booker is currently putting on a masterclass in Democrat priorities. Talking non stop while delivering nothing of value.

Corey Booker held the world’s longest filibuster in defense of illegal alien gang members and terrorists.

Today’s Democrat Party.
Stephen Miller just ended Cory Booker’s career:

“Cory Booker filibustered for men in women’s sports, open borders, and taxing tip workers.”
Miller adds that Booker never filibustered for American victims of illegals.

That's why this take from pollster Frank Luntz's is being roundly mocked.

[W]hat Cory Booker did over the last 24 hours may have changed the course of political history.
I watched a lot of it. I listened to words. I listened to phrases, how he presents himself.
Did he criticize Donald Trump? Of course he did. But he struck the kind of tone that grassroots Democrats are looking for.
He gave them a reason to fight. He gave them a reason to stand up and say, this is my country too. Of course, every Republican watching will say, this is nonsense.
But he's not speaking just to Republicans. He's speaking to Americans. And what I saw over the last 25 hours absolutely blew me away.
And just as you sometimes make projections or predictions, I'm going to do one right here. That speech puts Cory Booker as one of the leaders for the Democratic Party in 2028, and I'll go even further. If you ask Democratic senators right now, would they rather have lead them over the next three years, they would choose Cory Booker over Chuck Schumer. (Transcript via RCP)
