Sheldon Adelson, the founder of Las Vegas Sands Corp. and one of the GOP’s biggest donors, is not doing well, according to his lawyer.

Jim Jimmerson, a lawyer for Las Vegas Sands, said Monday that the 85-year-old’s health is “dire.” He has not been at work since December after being diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

“These side effects [of the medication for the cancer] have restricted his availability to travel or keep regular office hours," Ron Reese, the company’s spokesman, told Bloomberg. “They have not, however, prevented him from fulfilling his duties as chairman and CEO."

Attention was placed on Adelson’s health this week when Jimmerson said in court that he was too ill to testify in an upcoming court case.

We “recently learned of the dire nature of Mr. Adelson’s condition, health, and that he had, in fact, not participated in the company proceedings in terms of being physically present in Las Vegas at the company on Las Vegas Boulevard, since approximately Christmas Day,” Jimmerson said, according to a transcript of the hearing.

Adelson last year donated millions to two conservative super PACs ahead of the 2018 election. Adelson and his wife, Miriam, gave $25 million to the Senate Leadership Fund and $30 million to the Congressional Leadership Fund. In addition, the couple contributed more than $113 million to GOP causes during the midterm cycle. (Politico

Reese told Bloomberg that the company expects Adelson to resume his schedule upon completing his medication.
