Vice President Mike Pence tweeted his support Monday for the movie “Unplanned,” which tells the story of former Planned Parenthood employee Abby Johnson who chose to leave the abortion industry and become a pro-life advocate after a conversion experience.

Pence said that it was “so good to see movie theaters across the country showing @UnplannedMovie-- a deeply inspiring new pro-life film based on the best-selling book by @AbbyJohnson.”

“More & more Americans are embracing the sanctity of life because of powerful stories like this one,” he added.

The film opened strong over the weekend with a $6 million debut, which was double its expected $3 million earning.

"We are thrilled, gratified and humbled," co-directors Cary Solomon and Chuck Konzelman said in a statement Sunday. "We are so pleased that the American people have responded with such an enormous outpouring of support at the box office. It humbles us and we look forward to seeing what happens in the weeks ahead."

Abby Johnson, who now leads a group dedicated to helping abortion workers leave the industry, pointed out on Monday that the film’s Twitter account surpassed the follower count of Planned Parenthood. This was despite the film’s account dealing with a brief Twitter suspension and subsequent glitches with its follower count over the weekend.
