The Story Of America's 'Biggest Serial Killer' In Theaters October 12

On October 12, Gosnell: The Trial of America's Biggest Serial Killer is set to open in theaters.

The film is based on the true story of Dr. Kermit Gosnell, who was sentenced to life in prison without parole, after he was convicted of killing viable fetuses while performing abortions.

The title is derived from the 2014 grand jury report accusing Kermit Gosnell of killing hundreds of newborn babies over a period of several decades.

District Attorney Seth Williams was the prosecutor who convicted Dr. Gosnell. In the movie, however, the prosecutor for the Gosnell case, Alexis McGuire, is played by actress Sarah Jane Morris. The movie portrayed this case as “the case no one would touch.” As McGuire was told, “You’ll be the prosecutor who went after reproductive rights, and you’ll be a racist to boot,” reports THR.

Similarly, it is portrayed in the trailer as “a story nobody would cover.” One telling scene from the movie shows an empty press gallery, with nothing but “reserved” signs for journalists. McGuire is told “When you get to the courthouse you are going to be swarmed by reporters. Are you ready for this counselor?” As the prosecution walks into the courtroom the camera cuts to an empty press gallery: “Where is everybody?”

The movie also stars Dean Cain, who plays the detective James “Woody” Wood.
