President Trump Wants The Press To Decide Where He Donates His Salary

On the campaign trail candidate Donald Trump pledged to donate his taxpayer funded salary to charity should he win the White House. On February 20, 2017 Trump received his first paycheck as President of the United States, prompting questions about whether the money has been given away.

Monday White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer was asked about the follow up of that pledge. He said the donation will be made in full, totaling $400,000 before taxes, at the end of the year after input from the press about where it should go.

"He kindly asked that you all help determine where that goes," Spicer said. "He wants to donate it to charity, and he'd love your help to determine where it should go."

One reporter in the briefing room suggested the money be donated to the White House Correspondents Association fund for student journalism scholarships. The scholarships are given out at the annual WHCA dinner, which the President has said he will not attend.
